So yeah, I made a foolish mistake. I woke up at 8 AM Saturday morning, drove from where I live in Fort Worth to Dallas (which is about an hour's drive), worked at the train museum for four or five hours, went to the trolley barn, slept there, picked up the guy I work with at the trolleys, and slept just about the entire time I was on duty. When it came time to drive home at about a quarter past 12 midnight, I though I was gonna make it home. I had food in my stomach, and I was pretty awake at the time.
But then the drive started...
I got about halfway through, and my eyelids started getting heavy. I was listening to the first part of Pink Floyd's "The Wall", and the song "Don't Leave Me Now" came on. If you've ever listened to it, you'll know how hypnotic it can be because in the background, the entire time, there's a guy breathing in and out very slowly. It ended up being too much for me. I fell asleep at the wheel.
Next thing I knew, the airbag went off and basically caused me to punch myself. There was a god awful zipping noise, and several loud "bangs" in quick succession.
Okay, I thought to myself, what the hell is going on? Well, I've just been in a wreck, I'm in a bit of pain, and Roger Waters is screaming at me. I tapped off the stereo, shut down (what was left of) the engine, and got out. I loving totaled the car. All I got was a bruise on my right wrist, and a cut on my left forearm.
I'm never working that long again. Pics to come as soon as I can upload them off my phone...
EDIT: What I hit was one of those barriers that's made of the three steel wires held up by metal posts. The banging noise came from the 18 posts I bent over, and the zipping noise came from the wire.
Thank God I'm alive.
