Author Topic: Chain gun?  (Read 2902 times)

Placing lots of "chain link" statics may cause lag if you decide to create a bridge over some massive chasm. Perhaps a maximum length to it?

I could make a lower poly chain for the actual projectile. This was just a concept model.
EDIT: Yes a maximum length as well.

It should be like a tractor beam sorta thing.
It shoots a receptor, which sticks into the wall.  Then, that makes a path to where you shot, and you can walk on it.

All it would be is one model for the gun, one model for the receptor, and emitters for the beam, as well as a collision thing for you to walk on.
It can be done like this, no?

Wow...this is the first suggestion I made that someones actually make a model on I feel kinda special

there was a game with his exact suggestion. just google Dirk Valentine.

that'ss my inspiration :D

maybe instead of chain links, a bunch of streched cubes with a small space in between them.

It's more the fact of having that many static shapes than having to render them - every one causes as much lag as a brick did in v0002, which could add up...

This is turning into a good idea...

because Space said it could be done?

I just tell people whether/vaguely how it's possible or not, it's up to you to make it :cookieMonster:

i think its a good idea

Bump, for possibility.

It's possible, but it'd be pretty horrible in regards to visuals, until someone finds a way to tile textures on a static shape.

No, because at first I thought it was going to be some skinny chain that would be hard to stay on and would go on forever. Now it's a thicker chain with a distance.
