If I may quote the great Max Brooks:

At close range against human attackers, this weapon reigns supreme. Against the living dead, this is not entirely true. A good twekve-gauge shotgun can literally blow a zombie's head off. However, the longer the range, the greater the pellet dispersal pattern, and the lesser chance of skull entry. A solid slug would have the same effect as a rifle, even at greater range (provided the barrel is long enough), but in that case, why not just use a rifle? What shotguns do possess is stopping power. The scattering shot acts as a solid wall, whereas a rifle bullet might pass clean throught or miss the target alltogether. If you are cornered, or on the run, and need time to escape, a good shotgun blast can send several zombies sprawling. The downside of a shotgun is that the large, twelve-gauge shells are bulky and therefore burdensome when traveling and leave less room for other equipment. This must be considered if a long journey is required.

tl;dr: Shotgun bad.

Point taken...

But I still think you did yourself an injustice by not getting out of California while you still had the chance.

Edit: Have you found a good place to get trench spikes, I still haven't found any.

Edit2: On another note, Max Brooks only covers how to deal with the Solanum virus originating zombies, if there are other strains of the Zombification virus that act in different manners than Solanum, it might be possible that the viral core will be located elsewhere besides the brain (most likely on the spine or connected to the brain with a tap-root like structure).

Just stick your hand out and let them bite it. A hammer's reach is god awful and the hammer's head is so god damned small. Crowbar or bat or anything longer would be good.
Fine nick, I'll take the awfully heavy plow we own. Use it as a spear.

Look, zombies don't like hamburgers. How can't the Dinner Blaster be the greatest anti-undead weapon?

First of all, quote'd because I'm going to refer to it.
I think zombies would be like this:
-Recently infected zombies will be just as strong, if not stronger than normal humans. They would be strong because their muscles would not have deteriorated much and would not have sustained too big of injuries. I say stronger because they won't feel the pain that exerting your muscles give, therefore letting them run faster and be stronger.
-The longer the zombie has been infected, the more it would have deteriorated, thereby becoming weaker. Body parts will lose strength and fall off.
-Depending on how intelligent zombies actually are, they may or may not have the motor control to be able to do simple things like open doors, climb vertically, and walk up stairs. They would be able to smash in doors, possibly crawl up stairs and pull improvised "ramps" down to get up things.

If they are like this, than the best places to be would be high places you can only access by climbing vertically. If there are stairs, destroy them after making a rope or some other device to get back down. Shut all doors as they will alert you if zombies are trying to get in. Try not to camp in one place too long as you will just have to fight off more and more zombies when you want to leave.

General tips would include:
-Use bikes for transportation, they don't need gas and are virtually silent.
-Always carry a melee weapon, they never run out of ammo. Also, weapons that have other uses like crowbars, axes, hammers and machetes should be preferred over fancy swords. Chainsaws are generally not a good idea as they can run out of gas and are heavy and bulky.
-Use backpacks. These can help you carry items you may need later.
-Wear appropriate clothing. Long sleeves and pants are the best way to go because you can adjust them to meet just about any temperature range. Plus, you can use the material from them for bandages and still have suitable clothing. Pockets are a good thing. The more you have, the better off you'll be.
-Carry knives. They may not be great for fighting off a zombie, but they are VERY helpful in all other cases.
-Rope. Always have rope handy. Weather it is for moving a large object, used for scaling something, used as a trap, or used to make shelter, you can never have enough of it. Not too thick, not too thin. Chains will rattle and draw attention.
-Always have several extra meals on you. Don't eat them unless absolutely necessary. A couple of cans of soup or other good preserved meals will work well.
-Carry something to start a fire. Flint is preferred, but lighters and matches will work.
-If you are going to carry a gun, carry something that will have an abundance of ammo. Be sure not to shoot unless they are attacking you first, as they will draw attention to you.

Second:
Another thing, never do this. Doing this only means that when the time comes to make like a tree and get the forget out of wherever you are, You and Astrobear will be stuck between a horde of zombies you couldn't possibly kill and a door you nailed shut.

Not entirely true. You want to barricade all exits with somewhat easy to remove objects ie chairs blocking doors. But the main tip would be to CLOSE all doors. I don't care if you cut a smallish hole in the door so you can see what's on the other side, but never leave them open. Zombies shouldn't have the motor skills to know how to open a door without smashing it. This will give you two advantages. 1. They can't sneak up on you because they will have to bust through the door first. And 2. It creates a window of opportunity for you to do what you must before the zombies come into your room. You would have the time to prepare yourself to fight, or you would have time to remove part of your "easy-to-remove" barricade so you can escape.

Not completely true. Shotgun ammo can be found almost anywhere if you look for it, thereby being an effective weapon to carry. While a rifle may be better at fighting zombies 1vs1, a shot with buckshot can push zombies back, giving you time to retreat and possibly scoring a few kills. It really depends on if you are going to hold your ground and fight, or if you are going to just buy yourself some time until you can escape.

Too much MW2.

Too much Battlefield.

I've bolded the things you most likely don't have or know where to get.

:D

I know where to get them, there is a local liqour store and a shooting range which sells such weapons. ( I'm just missing the bullet proof vest. )

unless you dont really have AK47
then you're gonna have to endlessly run because zombies dont lose energy

I love how just about everyone in this topic doesn't have anything/know where to get anything they have on their list.

@Narkro
WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO EVEN GET A loving TANK? YOU'RE LIKE, FIVE.

Sleepy-sleepy-nighty-snoozey-snooze, and a super-super-extravagant-zombie-killing-intended-shotgun-laser.

Ok meh fine,

Where I live, my countrys army uses aks (not the AKS 47). And theres a drug store next to me and they sell a grenade launcher.

That is the biggest load of crap, I'd mistake you for a fertilizer salesman.
