Who said it was mistletoe? That's a small wreath chandelier. Just angled awkwardly enough so that the hole isn't really visible. And no, she was putting it back on.

The opacity percentage determines how transparent your brushes are.

If you mean a whole group of things, put them all on one layer and set the layer opacity to less than 100%

If you draw with a 50% opacity brush, and go over the previous stroke, it's then going to be 100%. That's not good.
