It made sense to me that if someone put a system in that randomly gave you items for playing the game as a reward for playing the game, getting the items without playing the game is against the spirit of the idea and would probably eventually end in some kind of punishment, especially since Valve has taken unlocks and achievements away from people who acquired them through unfair methods or through external programs. It's not like this is the first time this has happened, and the times it happened before it was also after some delay.
Apparently it is totally illogical and stupid of me to think this way. People who acquire items unfairly should have their behavior rewarded by allowing them to keep their ill-gained items and people who played fair should be punished for having an overdeveloped sense of morality.
You don't deserve a warning. You don't deserve your items. You don't deserve anything. It should have been obvious that using an external program to farm items that were intended to be a reward for playing the game was wrong. You got your items unfairly, so you had them fairly taken away.
They removed items I earned from achievements, but not duplicates I got from the idler. Nice going valve, god loving damnit.
Look at it this way, if you didn't idle at all you'd still have it all, plus a really ugly halo.
