I was also thinking about doing this before Ephialtes mentioned it. It's not really his own idea.

Let's not forget that ATF thought up the idea way before anyone discussed it.

In the past few days, Heedicalking brought up a thread about this idea.

I'm not claiming the idea is in any way unique. It was the timing of it that is suspect. Kalphiter has in the past tried to "one-up" the efforts of Ephialtes, so for him to suddenly express interest in running a server for people right after Ephialtes announced his own intention to is peculiar to say the least.

I've never heard of "ATF" before now, but I know the idea of hosting a set of servers in a data center somewhere has been discussed in the past. It may be challenging for 2-3 services to survive off of the limited number of potential customers available in the BL community. Personally, the easy-to-use system Ephialtes is proposing sounds great to me. I could understand wanting more control over the server for special mods that require it, but I've yet to see a decent mod that demands that kind of control.

Very strange bug...

I've submitted my Blockland on Air client twice in the past month. It disappeared the first time, when the server moved. The second time, just now, I noticed it not being there. No trace of it. Not in Files, and I never got notified if it was fail.

They get deleted if they go unapproved for too long. It's probably not the best place for your add-on anyway.

Obviously I can deal with certain requests on a case-by-case basis but allowing people to upload whatever they wanted as part of the setup stages wouldn't be an option.

Sharing files? Finally, I dont have to make a private mod for 1 person.

  • File Sharing - Depending on quite a few factors, you may also be able to send Blockland files to eachother over the messenger, such as save files or screenshots.
Add-on files can be downloaded, but not uploaded in-game.

V4 Alpha 5 is now out, just contains the Mod Manager migrated over from v3. I've started putting together the server-side code for chat rooms and once that's all tested and moderately stable I'll put together the client half and throw out another alpha.

Still debating whether to get rid of content downloading entirely. The new file repository seems to solve most of the issues Content Downloading resolved like the downloading of bricks/skies/textures so I'm not sure there's a need for it anymore. I'll have a chit chat with Badspot and see what we come up with.

I say you ditch it.

The content downloading thing is pretty well useless now. When you join a server, the files in your add-ons folder aren't checked. Only the ones in cache.db. So you'd end up doing all the RTB Content downloading, then re-downloading each of the individual files.

I got a new idea for the V4. Make an "All" button on the Music Files tab, when getting ready to start a game. Because, I have a lot of music. And when I want my server to be default, I make music default, and click "None". And when I want to add all my Music Add-ons, I have to check, each individual music file. Which takes me 5 minutes, which I hate.

Nobody ever thinks, fixing little things like that, could just be much easier to work with.

Simple enough, assuming there's nothing to special or dynamic about the music list gui, I could probably make it since it dosn't seem the kind of thing that would go in RTB v4.

Sure - seems like a simple addition. Added to the list.

I cant wait for friend gui :D

Is it bad I only just realized if you click the RTB logo in this topic you get a picture of a fish?

Ya, that has bugged me for a lot time. When i once made a club server, enabling music was a heck of a problem.

RTB's going down for about 12-15 minutes for some essential server crap. Won't be long.

Done.
