* MegaScientifical joins a server. *

Infomaniac: Did you know you are a loving bitch? That's right! You're a terrible, loving hobo. I, Infomaniac, hate you, you loving stupid douchbag. You should go die, sonny! Oh, and I did your mother.

* MegaScientifical cries. *

Now I want server-sided tips.

Also the preferences callback, make it if you return false it doesn't display the changes.
EDIT: Nevermind, was thinking of something else.

What about making some type of UI manager?

Friends lists and in-game chat is nice, but what I'd really like to see is server tags. I realize I've requested this before, but it's worth repeating.

The default server browser is functional but mediocre; it would be significantly better if servers could be filtered by content. The simplest implementation I can think of is that you, Ephialtes, manually generate the list of tags and server owners select up to three that best describe their server.

Examples:

Theme tags: Space, Western, Underwater, City, Medieval
Game-play tags: RP, DM, Mining, Freebuild, Themebuild

A slightly more difficult feature would be a server quality index. I'll leave the exact calculation up to you, but you could consider factors like: the # of players that connect, how long they stay, if players return and if so how often, server up-time, amount of custom content enabled, etc. Such an index might provide an incentive for players to host good servers and thus improve the game's value for its players.

Well as you know, you can use the buddy list to join people. Some people will exclusively use that, which kind of defeats the purpose of a complex listing process like you suggest. But maybe for a decimal update? It'd still be important, sure.

I agree with those tags, but there should be some sort of voting for which tags will be used. Because we need much more than just those you said. CTF, trench, creeper, TDM, C&R..

A voting system would be an unnecessary complication; a casual glance at the server would demonstrate what tags would be useful.

I'd keep the number of tags to under 20. That way they can be filtered/selected easily by the player without needing a massive drop-down list.

Click (Tags) button.

New window pops up with check boxes.

The Shift+tab shortcut for RTB v4 really messes me up because I actually use those when crouching and going to third person.

I've probably missed something completely obvious but is there anyway to remap the shortcut?

Yes.
Go into the overlay and click the "options" button.

When does this come out? The original post was half a year ago.

HALF a year ago? It's like, half of the way through 2011!

It looks pretty polished up the way it is :o

We're definitely getting there. A chat system takes a long time to get perfect.

but its never perfect, i know there will be updates and updates when it comes out. when the updates stop, it wont be perfect, it will be better.
