Author Topic: Anti-Personnel (A-P) Grenade  (Read 6761 times)

Don't get me wrong, I love the HE grenade in all it's 3 story enemy-filled building exploding gory glory. But I have always felt that indoor combat during TDMs was really missing something.

Most 1st person multiplayer games have some object that can enter rooms for you instead of you running in with your little shotgun, not knowing where the hell that one jerk is hiding. The problem should be apparent by now.
The answer? The A-P Grenade.

It would work much like it's highly explosive relative in that you could carry multiple grenades that were one time use for each. The difference would be that after the fuse runs out, it would release a shrapnel projectile in several directions instead of a kill radius.

I wouldn't care if it were a pink cube that exploded bouncing gun bullets. If you consider this as a project, be creative. Just remember:     Function < Balance < aesthetics.

"Sorry ROFLwaffle, but I find it hard to take you seriously on this one. If the HE Grenade does a fine job of clearing out a building on its own already, then why would you want a less powerful grenade?"

Look at it this way. Pretend your goal is to blow up every enemy's ass in the building. Why hesitate with that little green ball o' death? Because your ass and your team's ass is in the same building. Plus, Killing mass amounts people with the HE Grenade has always been a hollow victory for me (or at least a victory coupled with a "This is what you get for spawn killing red base" ban) and I think that the A-P Grenade would be pretty fun to use. Can you say "Stealthy Red base infiltration"? (instead of "Rambo Red base rape"?)

Please comment.

Can't you just use the A-P bomb?
EDIT: I just realized the AP bomb does about the same damage. Yeah I'd like this.

i agree, this would be a nice grenade

just take the He grenade script and make the damage like 50%
make a new model and your good:D

He says he wants it to self propel it through a building so you don't have to. Maybe make it like the homing vector or make it an AI that's explodes itself when near someone...

More like "I'm going to toss this exploding object into the room which may have an enemy in it so i do not have to put myself in danger and possibly get rid of the danger entirely".

Interesting thought though. :/

i don't understand what you're asking for

a grenade, minus splash damage, plus little fragments of death?

A grenade that spawns a bunch of projectiles instead of like exploading is what I got out of it.

This could be accomplished without having to spawn 100+ tiny pieces of shrapnel. Coverage can be calculated from a radius container search with fxDTSBricks being included in that search so hiding behind bricks would actually protect you.

Sounds like a good idea, definitely something we're missing.

Ephi has spoken. I do also think its a good idea.

Oh god, I saw an episode of Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th MS Team with something like this. I'm going to go dig it up. :>

Pretty much. I just thought that DM's were missing that something other games had, which was a frag grenade of some sort. Weird, you seemed to understand last time we talked about this...  :)

101 tiny pieces of shrapnel do sound dangerous to proper server function.
That radius search idea sounds awesome. I didn't even know things like that were possible in BlockLand.
Thanks for the input.

I will attempt to model. Reference image?

God, i have no idea. I did a quick search but most of the images looked like either the HE grenade, Bushido's Smoke grenade, or were pictures of grenades from Halo 3 (That'd go over well).
Here's a couple of american Grenades, but you'll probably see what I'm talking about.

Actually, the one with the protrusion on top is a percussion grenade i think, which means it explodes on impact...
You might have to make it just blocko, and color it differently from the HE so that people don't get confused... I'll look around for more examples in a bit. Sorry I'm not much help.
