Yeah, I don't use one (yet) but tilesets can make the game a lot easier.

there are loving colorful squiggly lines where I dig and I want to get rid of them!

that's WATER you dipstuff

you're digging into an aquifer: it's how most people make wells

How can it be water it is RED and YELLOW

Also, my .sav files show mini icons of Left 4 Dead and run the game plus all my saves are corrupted.

then it's lava

why are you digging that far

I was digging in the base of a mountain going only 1 level down.

wait, is it MOVING?

if it's obviously moving, it's a liquid. otherwise it's probably some kinda mineral, like pyrite or something

I still need that save problem fixed somehow.

Red and yellow squiggly lines are probably sand. It's very unlikely you are digging into lava at this point in the game or you are horribly unlucky. You would know because everyone would be drowning and burning. Even if you can't identify the other symbols in the game, you should at least be able to recognize when stuff is burning, it flashes red and yellow and grey smoke comes off of it.

You can't smooth the floors or engrave sand walls. Dwarves don't like them very much. Dig down further to stone to make your rooms and save the sand for storing logs and stuff. Later you can turn it all that sand into glass which you can use to make stuff.

Thanks for the help.
any help my my save issue though?

Your icons show an l4d icon because the .sav file format is associated with l4d. It won't have any effect on your game so I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the corruption, I don't know. My brother's saves always managed to corrupt themselves after the first time he reloaded them which is why he stopped playing it. I only ever played adventure mode.

Any help on my corrupt saves will be nice.

Ok, I'm gonna see who would be interested in a community fort. I already have two friends who would be willing to participate as well as me, although someone more experienced could start the fort (to find a good spot etc) if they want to. Just say aye or yes or whatever if you would like a spot and if we get enough people I'll start it in community projects.
