This similar to Nethack?
I've never played nethack but I guess adventure mode would be like it. a metalcrafter came to my fort and went in a mood straight away and i had no furnace, smelter or workshop built for him. I was able to get the stuff up in time to get a tin flask.

Was he Possessed or Fey? Legendary metal-anything dwarfs are pretty much the most sought after legendaries.

hes a legendary metalcrafter now - it was a secretive mood
e: is there a way to make a stockpile for seeds only?
e2: I was all like oh stuff oh stuff oh stuff looking for the goblin snatcher to send my champion wrestlers after, but he got killed by one of the stonefall traps at the entrance.
e3: wtf the trader making almost 1000 profit and he doesn't want to trade :(
"With your trade goods as they are, I can't fathom you ending up with all those items"
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME
e4: well, i got some weapons and stuff out of them. No steel stuff though because it's expensive as forget. Also I'm gonna need a bigger food stockpile
e5: I sent my military out for another snatcher and one of them takes their baby with them.

Ugh, I cant figure out how to do anything in this game ;_;
I made somewhat of a base underground, then I try and make a carpenter workshop and some guy goes over there and makes about half of it then just gives up, then i tried making some farm plot and i have no idea what the forget to do with it.
god damn, this is confusing

Have you read a tutorial?
stuff that happens as i go chronicled below:
Also my carpenter went in a mood and I now have a legendary table with tin spikes on it.
I had a dyer go insane and he eventually died of thirst, so he's rotting in his room so I built some burial chmabers, and they buried the recently deceased hunter but don't seem to want to bury the rotting guy.
My military just owned some motherforgeter kobold, I kitted them out with weapons I bought.
I alos had to extend my furniture stockpile again because i have so much of it
well, now there is only bones where the rotting guy was.

Goblin Ambushers didn't stand a chance. Only one guy was actually out there at the time but with 6 attackers he want into a martial trance and beat their skulls in with his mace.

A goblin ran down to my trade depot, being chased by the miltary. It walked into a stone trap. Also, the military person then left their baby on the sand.

Kobolds can evade traps, but they can't evade WEPON

Couple of Rhesus Macques appeared, needless to say I hope they cook well.
augh is there a way to move them inside so theyre near the butcher?

some dipstuff farmer ran around in circle in the kitchen until he died.
hey is somebody gonna move the corpse to the graveyard or?
well, now there's a rotting body in the kitchen. bravo. Good thing i installed that door.

My mason is churning out masterpieces

A bone carver was possessed. Would have been better if it was fey or something but oh well.

My carpenter and mason have continued spitting out masterpieces.

I started a new game right.
Bought only one cat with me.
Then it gives birth to this kitten.
God knows how the hell it got pregant.....

I started a fortress on top of my old one and now i have 14 dwarfs?

I always end up abandoning my fortress when i end up losing one or more of my dwarfs (lava or drowning).

I had a hunter who decided that he wants to kill everything on the map so he went and picked a fight with a family of alligators. He got injured and decided to take a nap while there was one left so he has now passed away.

Make a wooden cage fast!

Then [build] it somewhere and put all your dumb animals in it by [assigning] them to it. I assume you already know this but just in case someone had a pet problem I thought I'd detail it a bit.

Cats should be less hardcore.

well, I've got somewhat of a base going now...
Here's some pics.

Any suggestions? what should I do next?
I'm kinda stumped :/
Edit: Working on some bedrooms.
Next is dinning room, I guess.
e2: Finished beds, working on the dinning room. Migrants arrived, currently working on more rooms.
loving carpenter wont make my doors and beds >:(

Awesome tile set where did you get it?

Also you only really need one bedroom until you start getting immigrants.

- You don't need to irigate Sand or Soil, you silly goose :P You can just build farm plots on them from the get-go. You need to pass water over Rock floors and make them "muddy" to build farm plots on those though, and it's a 1 time thing for those.

- Doors!
- *** Trade depot!! ***
- Dining room!
- Bedrooms! (preferably 3x3, and deeper underground to reduce Noise unhappiness from workshops above)
- Also wood is precious, try to save it for things you won't be able to make out of stone like Beds and Barrels.
- Try to move everything inside (including the refuse pile), you'll want to keep your dwarves out of the rain.

And a general list for defense later:

- Have a miner remove the hill-side ramps just outside of your fort, so enemies will have no choice but to get in by whatever entrance you'll make later. There's a command to designate ramps for removal without having to mine out the walls.

- Traps, traps, traps. Stonefall traps, and if you have enough wood and obsidian, obsidian sword traps (Craftsdwarf workshot --> make Rock Swords). These tend to make a fortress too boring though since they kill everything.

- Create a drawbridge-style entrance to keep ruffians out. You could make it a double-door system with a Trade Depot always readily accessible to trade caravans too, and close it off to the outside once the caravan gets to it, simultaneously opening your fort to the trade depot to go trade things. This is good to keep ambush parties out, which are never far behind when caravans arrive.

- Build an Armor stand/weapon stand, place it outside near your entrance, and make it a Barracks. Get a wave of useless immigrants drafted and make them fight bare-handed until they become champions. They will be capable of taking on most non-range ambush parties.  After that you'll want to don them with silver weapons to practice, or just turn them into insanely strong/fast/tough crossbow dwarves. Your call.
