How are you stuck at that thing? Just blast him when his mouth is open, then wait on the fans till he gets close. Hold jump and fly over him.

It's not really working for me, the stuff he shoots at me keeps taking the shots of my missiles.

SPOILER EDIT: One thing that's always annoyed me about Cavestory is that if you follow common sense you'll get a bad ending. Getting the machinegun, saving Booster when he falls, and that if you don't look at the computer screen about eight times Curly will die. :/

I'm pretty sure that you can use the Machine Gun on the good ending.
