Author Topic: Modern Warfare 2: No dedicated servers  (Read 942 times)

I know this is somewhat old news unless you have been living under a  rock, but in case any of you haven't heard, there will be NO dedicated servers for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. Anyone considering purchasing Modern Warfare 2 for PC should seriously reconsider, because this is unacceptable.

I don't see why people are considering getting it on Xbox.  Why do they want inferior control?  Also, with the new system, less "research" servers, and less kicking for ping.  At least give it a try.

Also auto aim.

I was talking about how the 360 has that auto aim thing, where if your cross-hair is near a target, it moves itself over to it.

Oh. :p  Personally, I don't like that.

Everyone and their cat can get kills on the 360.

Also, obligatory

The problem with this system is that without ANY dedicated servers the game will have to be hosted by the player with the fastest connection, which may not necessarily be very fast at all because the average home internet connection does not have enough upload bandwidth to support more then 16 players. This means that the quality of the multiplayer experience will be completely inferior when compared to players connecting to a dedicated server that is running on a connection that actually has enough bandwidth to support a good number of players. In Call of Duty 4 there were many servers that supported more then 16 players, the most being 64, so by using this new system we will no longer be able to play large games without lag, something that will be IMPOSSIBLE with the matchmaking system because of people with crappy home connections. Another problem with not having dedicated servers is that players will not be able to have favorite servers where they gt to know the regulars, which seriously degrades the community aspect of the game.

TLDR: No dedicated servers means small, laggy games like on consoles and no being able to hang out with regulars in the same server like in other games.

*edit: I approve of the above post

Most console gamers use consoles because their computers are too horrible to play half the games available for modern day purchase.

like me.

Starcraftman makes a good point. The average user has internet speeds that are sub-broadband, and broadband speeds practically are needed for hosting normally.

Plus this hurts the business of dedicated hosting companies.

Even so I'm not all into Call of Dooty.

matchmaking "systems" should not exist. this is the number one reason why i loving hate consoles for shooter games.
among the huge loving list i am not getting into.

why would they bring that to the PC? i own a PC so i dont have to put up with the bullstuff that console gamers do. this is a game i was looking forward to, and it already is heading for suck.

on a sidenote; the PC graphics are incredibly lovey lol.
the 360 game looks like the first one on the 360, horsestuff.

i have to go punch myself in the balls when i watch my brother on the 360 join a multiplayer game.
of course he is the server host every time because we are not cheap and spend the 60 dollars a month on 25mbit for the family's house.
but what if you have a home network of savvy nerds and dont WANT your bandwidth supporting others without an option?

they did this as a way of control. not allowing dedicated server means clans will be useless. not allowing dedis means mods will not exist. it means they can even get you use to this way of shooter gaming, and one day start a FPS subscription...

My plan to dominate your internetz is working!

What I think there should be is the best of both worlds.  Maybe an option to do whatever.  Some like the mess that is joining a server of your choice.  About half of them are ruled out, because they kick you for ping.  Then, the other half (The ones that don't flat out suck, mind you.) look OK to join, but some have some stupid VIP slot thing.  So you must find a server without crap mods, isn't full, doesn't kick for ping, and doesn't just suck.  Then if you don't want that, you just go into matchmaking, which is a mess anyway.

L4D has matchmaking and it works fine.

But of course you also have a server browser and friend invites and stuff
