I'm surprised no one said "inb4Doorman."

While I agree that all Americans should be protected from violence, I think the bill is bad in that it also targets clergy, who are against homoloveuality for religious reasons, and normally would have a right to speak out against homoloveuality from the pulpit. This is a huge step in destroying free speech.
First off, I don't think most religion are against homoloveuality. I know for a fact that the Christian Church wants homoloveuals to join them. They are just against the homoloveual act, which is being a bit hypoctricial in my opinion. In other words, they say it is okay to be attracted to the same love, just don't act upon it.
I can understand their reasoning for this, though. The teachings religions put out, especially the Chrisian religion now a days, are good for the human species as a whole. Though it is not stated directly for the human species.
Secondly, the bill does not cover speech. One can make all of the gay, black, asian, white, blond, etc. jokes one wants, but to act violently towards someone just because that person is gay/black/whatever is a hate crime, and that is wrong.
Wat
Being gay has nothing to do with genetics.
[/facepalm]
Okay, I can understand why you would think that, and some people are naturally straight, but they are "exposed" to certain element in society that turn them gay. (No, that does not mean they were exposed to radiation and that changed their genetics.) But most of the time, it is genetics, as it is with me.
