Lots of threads about this game died off, and i wouldn't want to bump them, so i want to start a fresh one.
Alright, first off, i'm British and i play Earthbound and have now become a huge fan, sue me,
Since i was able to import the game from the USA (It was only released there and Japan, although there it was known as MOTHER 2, yes there was a prequel and now a sequel, but only in japan, sigh.), i was able to play the game, and heck, even with the additional price for importing, it was worth it, it was actually ORIGINAL compared to other games who were still stuck in the medieval theme fad, and in the story,it had it's funny moments, sad moments and even moments that have a strong meaning to it.
And the battle system isn't bad, it had a few flaws, but it worked fine for me.
But the music is incredible, it made a great use of the SNES' Sound chip.
And here's what happens when you start, copied from wikipedia and cut so you won't see the ending/spoilers, just incase you fancy playing this sometime.
The story begins when Ness is awakened by a meteorite that has plummeted to the earth near his home, where upon he proceeds to investigate the crash site along with his pet dog, King, and next door neighbor, Pokey, who later on asks if Ness could help find his little brother, Picky. After arriving, Ness encounters an alien named Buzz Buzz, who informs Ness that he is from the future where a hostile alien, Giygas, dominates the planet. Buzz Buzz instructs Ness to embark on a journey to defeat Giygas in the present, because he is too powerful in the future. Ness then proceeds to seek out eight "sanctuaries," to unite his own powers with the Earth's and gain the strength required to confront Giygas.
So yeah, here's a wikipedia article for people who want to look further into the game, don't read too much of it though unless if you have to, there's a few spoilers.
