Yes, that's what I meant about the Steam updates. If I view updates for anything else I get the specific game patch notes, but for the L4D2 Demo I get all the Steam Client updates including ones before L4D2. I don't think that's the actual update since the message I got said "Finished downloading Left 4 Dead 2 Demo" rather than the "Finished downloading Steam Client, restart it" one.

Yes, sometimes they forcingly add them for you to play the demo of the games. More people trying the demo = more people buying the game.
