Author Topic: Cities XL (Warning: Very Large Images)  (Read 1329 times)

I know there was a thread about this while it was still in beta, but now that it's released I think it needs a new topic.

Cities XL
is a city planning game very similar to the classic Sim City. Its unique aspects come from the multiplayer interaction, where different cities can trade resources for income in order to support ever growing populations. You can also visit other players' cities in 'avatar mode', where you can click on spots on the map and walk around. The game has a large selection of models and high quality textures, so even at maximum zoom the game doesn't look terrible.

Here are some screenshots I have of my 3.6 million person city:

The game is a bit pricey, at $50 for retail and $19 for a three month multiplayer subscription. On top of that, content is still being added in, and mass transit systems will not be implemented until the third content pack. There is also a pretty serious memleak problem that can cause crashes or just reduce frame rate to very low levels, so save often.

Would be epic if you could go to war with other cities.

I want this :(
Too bad the epic version is like 59.99$ on steam, even the normal version is 49.99$.
Better wait until they have a sale on the weekends maybe D:

lol @ first pic - unrealistic airport is unrealistic

If only SC4 had these graphics/camera views/avatar modes.

I would've got this, but it has lower ratings than SC4 and the high-res textures and objects make it look like it might have severe FPS problems on lower-end computers like mine. No thanks.

I tried the beta because i love SC4, but i hated it.

Nice FPS.
I was just about to point that out.

This game must be a real frame-eater. forget it, I'm sticking with SC4.

I tried beta of this game.
Pretty unrealistic that if business goes to bankrupt and another moves in, the house gets replaced.
Other than that, the game looked nice, but I forgot it pretty fast.

Nice FPS.

I have two GTX280s. Blow me. It's because the game doesn't use more than one CPU core.

Wait, isn't this 2009? :o

Indeed it is. They plan on implementing multicore support soon.

As I said, content is still being added. It was a rushed release. But that doesn't mean it's bad.

i see you chose to be a girl?
