Get Borderlands. It's newer.
Of course, if you do get Fallout 3, get the one with all the DLC's.

Protip: go guerilla against supermutants if you have to fight them at low levels.

Also, get your explosives skill up to at least 25 as fast as possible.

Get to level 30, get the perk Nuclear Anomaly, get you health below 20, and epicness happens.

The PS3 version is 100x buggier than the Xbox or PC. Enjoy.

Something I do out of habit now, before you go into vats, jump then immediately go into it. I hav found to have a slightly better chance of hitting, as it also gives you more time for them to come to you, and for you to be invincible for slightly longer.

I must wait until I build my new computer. then I can get FO3 GOTY and run with no lag.

My technique for super mutants is to take out their legs with mines or nades then run in close and combat shotgun them in the face.

My technique is to shoot stuff wherever you feel like because the game is pretty easy on any difficulty.

Throw guns at stuff.

If you hear anything behind you turn around and shoot wildly in the area. I killed a deathclaw doing that.

The implication that borderlands could be nearly 1/4th as good as fallout 3 is astounds and disturbs me.
