AMD is fine, as long as I'm not nixing quality for price.

AMD is probably better for budget until your budget starts getting up there, i7 is the king of CPUs atm.

Here is a comp about 700 bucks which leaves you room to upgrade the cpu or GPU if you want or to pocket the extra for games.

Will a 300gb harddrive work? I was looking into adding a Solid State for your boot disk but that wouldn't fit in your budget.

300 would work. I've got to say though, Visage's set-up is looking appealing. Tell me what yours has on his when you're done.

Edit: Another question. These processors aren't integrated into the mobo, are they?

Hunh? CPUs just get put on the mobo, they are really tiny and usually you just put it in and push a lever to lock it in. Everything in my build I know is compatible except the mobo I haven't fully researched but I can tell you in a bit.

EDIT: Yea the mobo is perfect for everything, this should be everything you need.

Usually CPU's on prebuilts are integrated into the mobo.

I prefer the copper ones that stick outwards in a circular shape but a lot of times they simpley don't fit right so this one is best I can recommend, I don't want you to buy one that doesn't fit.

If you want to overclock that build is very similar to mine. I could recommend an incredible cooler for around $50
