Theres nothing out there anyway, and Japan officially won the space race.

You're an idiot if you think they can't.

They devoted billions to its construction. You don't devote that to /construction/ unless stuff is happening.

loving GUNDAMS

COME ON, ZAKU, LETS DO THIS

i love all the science fiction of "could be" technology.

some pictures and a theory come up with a good idea. and children instantly think its in motion.
Japanese JUST put their slow asses in space, and he thinks they are currently reinventing it all.

sure its a good idea and would be awesome. and studies show it could work fine.
cept no one has plans of actually doing it lol. just because some ideas get tossed around dont mean anyone is doing it.

Quote from: wiki
A space elevator is a proposed structure designed to transport material from a celestial body's surface into space. Many variants have been proposed, all of which involve traveling along a fixed structure instead of using rocket powered space launch. The concept most often refers to a structure that reaches from the surface of the Earth on or near the Equator to geostationary orbit (GSO) and a counter-mass beyond.

The concept of a space elevator dates back to 1895 when Konstantin Tsiolkovsky[1] proposed a free-standing "Tsiolkovsky" tower reaching from the surface of Earth to geostationary orbit. Most recent discussions focus on tensile structures (specifically, tethers) reaching from geostationary orbit to the ground. This structure would be held in tension between Earth and the counterweight in space like a guitar string held taut. Space elevators have also sometimes been referred to as beanstalks, space bridges, space lifts, space ladders, skyhooks, orbital towers, or orbital elevators.

Current technology is not capable of manufacturing practical engineering materials that are sufficiently strong and light to build an Earth-based space elevator. The primary issue is that the total mass of conventional materials needed to construct such a structure would be far too great to be economical. Recent conceptualizations for a space elevator are notable in their plans to use carbon nanotube or boron nitride nanotube based materials as the tensile element in the tether design, since the measured strength of microscopic carbon nanotubes appears great enough to make this theoretically possible[2]. Technology as of 1978 could produce elevators for locations in the solar system with weaker gravitational fields, such as the Moon or Mars.[3]

first of all. it was the Russians idea.

second, years later a Japanese guy wrote a book about it. and held a conference about it to discuss with scientists.

so no, the Japanese are not currently building/planning anything. it was a huge what-if conference.

--------------
the US has done studies into time travel.
does this mean they are building a time machine? well i read about it, so according to your logic, they MUST have made progress if they made a study.

As for uncontrolled, we are traveling through the human concept of time as we speak. And in some cases, relatively faster or slower than others depending on how close to the speed of light we are. As for traveling backwards...not very likely at this point.

I lol'd @ whoever said Asia is 20 years ahead of the U.S. Someone's obviously never heard of North Korea.

Time Travel is entirely unproven to be possible, but some scientists say that a permanent trip into the future could be plausable.

That's atleast what I've read.

No, stop talking, you're a moron.
If you're going to quote Wikipedia, do it right.

In 2008 the book "Leaving the Planet by Space Elevator", by Dr. Brad Edwards and Philip Ragan, was published in Japanese and entered the Japanese best seller list.[29] This has led to a Japanese announcement of intent to build a Space Elevator at a projected price tag of £5 billion. In a report by Leo Lewis, Tokyo correspondent of The Times newspaper in England, plans by Shuichi Ono, chairman of the Japan Space Elevator Association, are unveiled. Lewis says: "Japan is increasingly confident that its sprawling academic and industrial base can solve those [construction] issues, and has even put the astonishingly low price tag of a trillion yen (£5 billion/ $8 billion) on building the elevator. Japan is renowned as a global leader in the precision engineering and high-quality material production without which the idea could never be possible.

So yes, they are at least planning something. loving moron.

if anything, ur both stupids for believing what Wikipedia says.
