They manage quite well in Star Trek. Those replicators made getting anything so easy that all value for those said luxury items went right down the toilet and money was abolished around 2110 along with sickness because research funds were no longer needed and technological advancement skyrocketed to a utopia within the next 100 years. Not to mention everyone had health care because insurance was no longer an issue either.
Point is, you create a situation where everyone is forced to become equals due to advanced technology where all monetary value has collapsed and people will be forced to strive to work for the betterment of the whole rather than just themselves, you have a society no longer in need of money. It might fail due to people clinging to the need for material wealth for the first few generations, but eventually they'll realize that it will lead them right back to the crash and they'll start all over again. Sooner or later they'll get it in their heads or simply become extinct.
