[AoB] Architects of Blockland - 2012

Author Topic: [AoB] Architects of Blockland - 2012  (Read 27008 times)

AoB, or Architects of Blockland, is a clan dedicated to skillful building while maintaining a membership of skilled and mature players. The clan's goal is to provide each and every player with an ideal, friendly environment in which to share their ideas and to learn from skilled builders, and advancing their technique. Being a member does not grant you just a place in the community, but also the opportunity to learn from fellow members and to share your ideas through both standalone and collaborative building projects. If you are a builder seeking community, come and knock on our door, for we are waiting for you.

History

A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a man named General Jake hosted servers to work on large builds. After a while, Jake noticed that a lot of the people helping him with his projects came back to help on later projects. He started to feel like these people formed a team of sorts. Here the idea spawned: A clan of architects. The name "Architects of Blockland" seemed like a good one, neat and simple. And so it grew from there.

Over the years, AoB has continued to grow in mature membership and community reputation, and the AoB community has evolved tremendously. The clan has maintained a pleasant, skillful building environment since it began. Throughout most of its history, the clan founder, General Jake, has maintained leadership. In 2011, Jake took a backseat position in AoB, giving Remousamavi the position of acting director.

The Architects of Blockland are, as of AoB 2012, six years old. Below is a list of past AoB sessions:

 - AoB 2006
 - AoB 2007
 - AoB 2008
 - AoB 2009
 - AoB 2010
 - AoB 2011

Application

AoB is currently Accepting All Applications.

To apply for AoB, you must be able to build skillfully, and have at least a basic knowledge of events. AoB is first and foremost a building clan. We do have an eventing branch, which you can read about below. But for those who come to the AoB server asking something like "kan I join? I dunt build g00d but im kewl at events," (which is a quote from a Blockhead, FYI,) this is why we have the application process.

If you wish to apply for AoB and you believe you have sufficient building skills, follow the directions below.

Build your App

There are two ways you can do this:

First, you can build your app on the AoB server. About half of the time the server will be hosting the Headquarters build, during which you can build your in-server app.

Secondly, you can build on your own server. After you are done building the app, post some pictures in the Gallery section of the forum, and let Remousamavi know. Note that apps built in your own server may not be loaded to the AoB server. No exceptions.

Interview

Ask Remousamavi to look at it. If it shows potential, you will proceed to the next step, the interview. If it is one of those spam builds, such as a tower of 1x1x5 bricks or a Rainbow FX "Club," the app will be denied.

The interview is a 5-10 minute private talk with Remousamavi. No preparation is needed, and rehearsal is discouraged, but you may have to wait a bit to secure an interview time. You may schedule an interview ahead of time by PM or by posting on the AoB topic.

Judgement

Following the interview, your app will be judged. Remousamavi will have the final say, but input from existing members will be taken into account. If you pass judgement, you become a member, R-1, unless you are told otherwise by Remousamavi.

Ranks

All new members start at R-1. Ranks are given to members for various achievements such as quality building,

Recruit [R 1 - 2]

Recruits are new members. All new members start here.

Builder [R 1 - 4]

Builders are people who have been in the clan for a while, and have proven that they aren't going to be inactive and lose their place soon. Note that returning AoB members who've been with us for a while will automatically be placed here.

Architect [R 1 - 3]

Architects are people who have proven themselves as builders. Like the actual definition, Architects can recreate existing buildings and landscapes or create new ones of their own. Architects have a very high building quality.

Guru [R 1 - 2]

Gurus are the top notch builders/designers of the clan. They are mostly like Architects, but of higher calibre. They are also the least noobish, and most trustworthy of temporary leadership if needed.

Leaders [Director, Retired Director]

Leaders have a founding, leading, and/or directing role in the clan. These ranks are given by director's choice, based on factors different from those of normal ranks. Asking for Leader rank will, in fact, make you less likely to get it.

(Remousamavi is the current Director of AoB; General Jake, the founder, is a Retired Director.)

LINKS

- AoB Print Pack

Tags & Uniform

Tags are usually optional. If you are in AoB, you do not have to wear them unless you are at an AoB event or ceremony. The AoB tags start with AoB. and end in your rank. If you wish to represent two clans at once, you may use the second tag to do so.

Below is a list of examples of clan tags you might use:

  • You are a Builder, rank 2:
AoB.Username Here.B2

  • You are a Guru, Rank 1:
AoB.Username Here.G1

  • You wish to represent both AoB and Clan XXXX:
AoB.Username HereXXXX

  • You wish to represent AoB as a second clan:
XXXXUsername Here.AoB

Uniforms are mandatory for events and ceremonies, and are generally more required than clan tags. If you are on the AoB server working with the clan, you should wear it. It is recommended that you have it as a favorite in your avatar editor.

The AoB uniform consists of the following:

  • All parts of the avatar above that are white are actually colored based on rank.

  • The uniform must have the hat and shoulderpads seen above.

  • Gloves, shoes, and shirt may be any shade of black or grey. Ask Remousamavi about other colors.

  • Your chest decal must be the Pilot Uniform seen in the avatar above.

  • You may choose your own face and torso shape. If you wish to have a different color head, ask Remousamavi about specifics.

AoBE

AoBE, or Architects of Blockland: Eventing, is AoB's eventing division. If you are already a member of AoB, and you are good at eventing, you might consider applying for AoBE as well. If so, just ask Remousamavi.

Ranking in AoBE works similar to regular AoB. Ranks in AoBE are supplementary to AoB ranks. For example, if you were a Builder, and became an AoBE member, your name in the Member list would look like this:

Username (Builder 1), AoBE Technician

The ranks for AoBE are as follows:

Technician (T 1 - 2)

Basic eventing skills. People in this rank know how to work with basic named brick events and relays. Generally very basic VCE understanding. Skills include light switches, doors, curtains, trapdoors, emitter signals, etc.

Mechanic (M 1 - 2)

Intermediate eventing skills. People in this rank can work proficiently with what they have. They can create relay-only devices with one or no named bricks or make a complex contraption. Basic to moderate knowledge of VCE events. Skills include security doors, player filters, click input based control systems, brick databases, etc.

Engineer (E)

Advanced eventing skills. People in this rank are experts at all ranges of events. They do not need named bricks, and VCE proficient Engineers do not even need many relays. Skills include computers, TDM control systems, training simulators with fully functional scoreboards, foolproof control panels, etc.

Note before applying:

1: Only members of AoB may enter AoBE. You may apply right after you get in, perhaps with the same app you used to get into AoB to start with if it has sufficient events. Events are, of course, otherwise not judged.

2: Members of higher rank will find it easier to progress through AoBE ranks than newcomers. This is because older members are less likely to suddenly disappear and be dropped. Newer, lower ranking members such as Recruits may still reach Engineer, they simply must prove that they are trustworthy enough.

Blacklist

The Blacklist consists of those who were permanently banned from AoB for various reasons. If you see your name here and do not understand why, you may PM Remousamavi about it. Names listed in black are people who have been blacklisted. Names listed in grey are people who have temporarily appealed their blacklist status and are on watch. Names listed in white are people who have been removed from the list, though their names will remain here.

:)

All previous members will be added to the OP, correct. :D?

How did you make it so that when you click (e.g.) members it immediately loads the page to that headline?
I can't seem to do that with my clan topic. :c

Anchors.

Don't understand ways of the forums.

>fml

Looks good. A couple things to polish the OP, I understand it may be under progress still, but the huge space between each section seems unnecessary. My question is: do previous members need to reapply or will we be eventually added to the OP?

Finally the introduction:

AoB, or Architects of Blockland, is a clan dedicated to skillful building while maintaining a membership of skilled and mature players. The clan's goal is to provide each and every player with an ideal, friendly environment in which to share their ideas and to learn from skilled builders, and advancing their technique. I think it would be "advance their technique" Being a member does not just grant you just a place redundant :( in the community, but also the opportunity to learn from fellow members and to share your ideas through both standalone and collaborative building projects. If you are a builder seeking community, come and knock on our door, for we are waiting for you.

I'm sorry, I'm a bit of a grammar national socialist but after all, my intention is to help the topic appear as professional as possible.

It would suck if we had to re-apply. Especially for me, because I'm have mucho problems with Blockland right now.

How did you make it so that when you click (e.g.) members it immediately loads the page to that headline?
I can't seem to do that with my clan topic. :c

First, you make the thing you click. If you want it to go to Members, you say "<iurl=
#namehere>
Members</iurl>."

At where you want it to go when you click it, you say "<anchor=namehere>Members</anchor>."

Except use []'s instead of <>'s.
