General Discussion / TDM - Battle for Snowy Hills
« on: December 30, 2022, 10:49:09 PM »
It's back!

I will be hosting Battle for Snowy Hills tomorrow afternoon/evening.
It was updated a ton (turns out there were major event errors when I hosted last time, which have been fixed).

The original topic can be found here: https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=321885.0
It has some more pictures that you may want to see.

I hope to see some of you there!

This is an urgent message to all Blocklanders that post their add-ons to MediaFire.

On May 11th, 2020, MediaFire updated their data retention policy.

"To be exceedingly clear, if you access your Free registered account from our Web or Mobile platforms, or any service using the MediaFire API once per eight (8) months, your account will never be considered abandoned or removed. Free unregistered accounts may be considered abandoned after fourteen (14) days of inactivity. Paid accounts, such as Personal, Professional, and Business customers, are never considered inactive while maintaining an active subscription.

Content is retained in accounts based on account activity and not individual file activity. What this means is your data does not have to be shared for your account to be considered active. Data is only removed when the account is considered completely inactive for a period of time.

If we are considering a registered account abandoned, we will send 2 emails, an initial and final notice, over 15 days urging the user to access their account. Accessing your account at that time through our Web or Mobile platforms, or through any MediaFire API enabled service will prevent removal. It is not possible to notify unregistered account users since no contact email address exists."

Data Retention Policies. (2020, May 11). Retrieved December 19, 2020, from https://www.mediafire.com/policies/data_retention.php

To summarize, MediaFire states that free registered accounts will be considered "abandoned" if no activity is detected for 8 months. They will send 2 warning emails over 15 days requesting that the user access their account. If the user does not, the account is deleted, along with its content.

January 11th, 2021 marks 8 months since the changes took place.
Many add-ons may potentially be lost.

Not all add-ons are posted to Blockland Glass. Some authors only post their add-ons to MediaFire. Those that do should receive an email warning that their account may be terminated if they remain inactive. Even so, there is no guarantee the owner of the account will respond in time.

If you have any add-ons on MediaFire, please backup your add-ons, and do at least one of the following:
  • find an alternative hosting service (such as Blockland Glass)
  • keep your MediaFire account active

I can already think of a few accounts that would probably be deleted, such as the one that hosts some rare and obscure add-ons by Str4tofortress.

A reminder to anyone who has created add-ons or anyone who is currently creating add-ons:
ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES!

Modification Help / TRUE Icon Template
« on: March 20, 2020, 06:01:40 PM »
The purpose of this topic is actually to provide people with a true icon template, rather than asking for help about one.

So I followed multiple tutorials for creating icons in GIMP, and I successfully did so. While running the game, I somehow noticed that there was a strange dark outline around my custom icons that seemed off. My attention to detail was soon proven to be correct. The icon "template" I downloaded that was provided in a tutorial topic was not good quality, causing it to differ from default icons.

I then created a custom icon template, forged from the default wand tool icon, since it provided the most area of the background. I successfully managed to create a true icon template that I have provided in this topic for anyone who was having the same problem, or anyone who just didn't want to go through the hassle of cutting and pasting and filling in their own template.

The entire image is meant to be 96x96, and the gray circle is meant to be 82x82. Anywhere within the 82x82 space not taken up by gray pixels that are part of the circle is meant to be completely black (0, 0, 0) but completely transparent as well (mostly in each corner). The surrounding area is meant to be completely white (255, 255, 255) and completely transparent. I messed up a bit and some places in the image where it should be completely black transparent are completely white transparent instead. You'll see what I mean if you import the png into GIMP. Hopefully, that doesn't cause any issues.

If you want to compare each individual pixel in the template to a default icon to check my work, be my guest. Please notify me of any problems or concerns. Hopefully, I helped some of you out who were planning on making icons for weapons or items.

Update 3/31/20: I don't recommend using my template. It has a white outline around it. I haven't been able to fix it yet. Try using the ones other people posted down below.

It gets tedious to continuously close and reopen the game after every change I make to add-ons I am developing. I think I remember hearing something about a torque program that runs the add-on as a kind of preview to see how it would act ingame. Is there any program like this? If there are multiple, which one should I use?

In case anyone needs to know what I use, it's Blender and Notepad++.

General Discussion / TDM - Battle for Snowy Hills

BATTLE FOR SNOWY HILLS

A TDM that uses Gravity Cat's weapons. I decided on his pack because of the grenades (of course). The pack has been edited so that the weapons damage non-physics vehicles (the howitzers) so that people can't just hide behind them indefinitely while they bombard the enemy.
the build includes HAND-BUILT TERRAIN. That's right. You heard me. HAND-BUILT. It took me 6 months to build the terrain. The build is over 550,000 bricks.
The objective is to hold majority of the capture points for 1 minute, or reach 125 points first.

Special thanks to Zeblote for the new duplicator, and Zor for the fill can. I couldn't have done this without these two amazing tools.

This will be hosted sometime soon, during the winter time. Team colors are red and green for holiday festivities.

Here are some pictures:

Tell me what you all think about the build!

I look forward to hosting it soon! I have had some problems with crashes because of the high brickcount, so I may run into some difficulties. I plan on uploading a file of the build soon, so that you too can host Battle for Snowy Hills!

Merry Christmas!

WARNING: IMAGE HEAVY

I don't know how anyone could script this thing to work like the real thing, but at least it looks good.

I've already tested it ingame... It may be a little big...

Modification Help / Faces are not rendering, need help!
« on: August 23, 2018, 04:55:42 PM »
I never would have thought this would ever be an issue at all... All it has to do is render the faces, but it seems unable of doing this unbelievably simple task.

Before you give any suggestions, please know that reinstalling blender and the DTS exporter doesn't solve it. I haven't tried using the older blender version with the older exporter, however, but it's unlikely that would do anything.

It renders completely fine from the inside, but the outside faces are acting like one-way mirrors. I can see right through them. Is there anything I can do with the model that will make it render properly?

I want to save what it is for a different day, when it's more complete, so I may be reluctant to disclose information about it. It's supposed to be a surprise! I will say that it is supposed to be a vehicle, but that's all that is needed.

I've provided some screenshots to show the outside and inside of the model.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
