how about lack of internet connection
that would probably stop you pretty well
luckily that's the one thing that's actually been solved already right? i mean unless you didn't do it ahead of time Lol

Well the official fix was a change to the error window to be more specific. 10/10 sega.

The unofficial fix is conveluted and you have to download the tools ahead of time anyway.

yeah but you can also just get the surgery that turns your entire body into a personal Verizon Wireless mobile hotspot and that'll solve your problems right up ( additional USB/ethernet port may be needed)

edit for actual discourse content:
i don't personally think editing one specified address in the executable is too bad, and i bet someone will probs make something that does it automagically soon enough, but obvs it shouldn't be a problem to solve in the first place. helps that i have a hex editor already installed usually for some reason? i guess and i at least roughly understand what the fix is even doing

Yeah they did, but the files are still encrypted(I think), making mods unnecessarily hard to make.
Mods are the only reason I got this on PC instead of just on the Switch.

there's already a mod launcher and framework for sonic mania
