Blow on a candle, it makes smoke.
Thats because the wick was burning and you didn't put it out with water, if you just have a floating ball of fire and put water on it, the it would make steam, not smoke.

Vapor is steam

So you came up with a complex idea with no ability to actually make it? Bravo.

Nudge Nudge Wink Wink

OP, here's how it is. You've got no experience with anything other than Game Maker, and are essentially just the

idea man

Which is a pointless title, and to anyone with a brain it screams "contributes nothing."

Topics like these are posted all the time. They never get past the planning stage. Try again when you can actually make progress.

water, earth, fire, air

if you want to be super complicated you could combine elements.
water (mud) earth. water (mist) air. water (steam) fire. earth (lava) fire. earth (dust) air.  fire (smoke) air
fixed

I was making a game too! Until i played Phantasy star online 2 and realised it's pretty much exactly what i was trying to do only not stuff.

Grab unity3d and open the scripting reference and get to work.
