Author Topic: Gravity Cat's Add-On Dump - Particle_ItemSparkles released!  (Read 2271343 times)

Yeah, I loved the old P90, it was just plain awesome.  And yes of course there will be a way. And I kinda like that ammobox-item idea... maybe. I'm not sure about the whole system I'll make.

But you didn't answer my questions ;)

Well I answered from my point of view. From S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to BFBC2, I played the hell out of those games. Both of which have bullet travel and drop. And they (Mostly the stalker games) made sure to have realistic recoil and accuracy. So in many cases I ended up behind a tree with bandits shooting at my with MP5s. And I would have my AK74. Firing full auto was a garunteed 0 accuracy because of the distance. So you would have to aim (with iron sights mind you, no scopes) over their heads and tap slowly. Each shot recoils enough to throw your aim off and after each shot you will have to recenter your aim because of it.

So in short, having around 100 or so hours among the 3 stalker games together, its influenced me to play every other shooter like that. Which is why I love these weapons because they are right up my alley in terms of playstyle. And it is also why I cannot play COD ever. Because if I see someone acoss the map and start steadily shooting at them, they'll just turn and spray their smg in my general direction, and they will get the kill. Not my kind of game. Not my playstyle. Why I hate hitscan.

Even shorter, if that was me chasing you off a mountain into the water, I would have shot about 10 or so shots rather than 3 clips.

People are used to spray&pray because weapons on blockland tend to have no ammo limits and/or accuracy limits.

We have to get used to it?

Another CQB tactic:
If you are running around a place with a lot of corners, take out the Truvelo .50, and when you meet someone, fire no-scoped, and it will be an instant kill!
I do it a lot, and i have never missed, its actually hard to miss at point blank.

Uuuh, just a little try to start a little discussion here...

You know your gun is extremely inaccurate when moving around.
You know your gun is very accurate when firing single rounds, when aiming, when standing still.
You know you only have 4 magazines.
You know 3 bullets to your enemies head would send him straight to hell (assume you are carrying the SA80).

What makes you jumping around like you're on all kinds of drugs?
What makes you spraying away all your magazines like you have unlimited ammunition?

It seems to be fact that most people play like this.

Well...

In games where no ammo limit and good accuracy is common, it's actually a good tactic. You never stand still, and you bounce, duck, and dive all the time, while keeping your enemy's head down too. It's more a question of skill at dodging rather than accuracy. If you've ever noticed, on General's Trench Wars, if you stand still for 2 or 3 seconds there's a good chance of being sniped.

It takes getting used to, these weapons. Most people who play with them are not used to those tactics.

Well, alot of games are made for... uuuh... "everyone". That's why they (just for example) often don't have a recoil system and/or bullet drop. Just to make it "easier" for the player (or more, for everyone), they cut out alot. And for me that's also something I dislike. You just have to aim and shoot...

If you use this pack, I think so. Or do you want to carry 5 different weapons because one of them might run out of ammo, instead of wearing some kind of protection and a medkit? You also could return to base after every fight.

Yeah, that is true. But you really can only use this tactic effectively at very very close distances/point blank.

Yup, that is true. But with these you might end up wasting a half magazine with (nearly) no hit. If you would stand still instead, you would only waste maybe 8 rounds or something - at the same distance.
And the longer your enemy is alive, the longer you are in danger.

What if the gun's accuracy decays the longer you hold and shoot? For example, at 15 ms, the spread is next to nothing. At 500 ms, the spread is pretty huge. At and after 500, the accuracy hits a max decay amount and the accuracy gets no better or worse, but just stays at that large spread.

Pros:
-More realism in BL
-Less projectile spam, more burst firing
-Uniqueness

Cons:
-Hard to make a universal system because each gun would vary
-More scripting work

That idea is not bad, but has it's limits if you don't want it to look like crap. And since I want to make a recoil system that forces you to "control" the weapon (your aim jumps up, for certain weapons also to both sides) that's a bit useless.

I am starting to mix and match words and pictures. Thus, anything describable with pictures, will have pictures.

Anywho:

Speaking for GCat there.

Okay, the entry system works now... more or less. I have to try around a bit with that...
And I sent Digital a new update, with the - atm crappy - entry system and the unfinished experimental recoil system.

The trouble is even with any 'aimed' shot you'll still miss if the enemy is looking at you and is at a sufficient distance. Kaje's Sniper Rifle can be easily dodged if you're observant, even as an instant kill on any hit and maximum projectile speed. Grabbing a machine gun or auto-shotgun and spitting a hail of bullets will get one hit on some enemies at least.

With the example on General's server the rifle is usually only good for hitting builders or inobservant snipers looking at someone else. Ephialtes' Shotgun on the other hand gives you a very small spread that makes up for any dodge if you can predict the rough area where the next jump will land and fires three projectiles at once - even though they're slower it's easier to hit with.

If all your weapons become useless when you move everyone may as well hole up in bunkers and keep peeking up, firing single blind shots when you think the enemy will pop up and repeat. Closer to a real war than the current weapons, probably, but much less fun.
