No they don't, they give your position away, they help everyone know what you're shooting at. Leaders of platoons or squads sometimes use tracers to mark targets for friendlies. They're also loaded as the last rounds in your magazine to let you know that you're out and they're also used in LMGs and Heavy machine guns or miniguns/gatling guns mounted on vehicles so the shooter can adjust their aim.

Tracers help you to see where your bullet fell
