What core beliefs?
God creating the Earth / Adam and Eve / animals / anything at all.

the ability to have omnipotence, prayer

Very interesting course this topic is taking. I can't say I didn't expect most of this, however. :o

I'd like it Magick would stop thinking he's some legendary peacemaker and am in the process of proving this to him.
I don't think of myself as a "legendary peacemaker", I'm just merely stating what I feel. It's tiresome to me to keep posting the same thing over and over again in the topics about similar conflicts. Though, at the same time, I do not desire to merely give up on my opinion. I am stating it here, as this is what is apparent to me, just as you are stating what you believe and is apparent to you. I also hope to get some people, at the very least, thinking.

Quite.

My belief system is that everybody is a buzzing noise in the back of my head good day to you all

God creating the Earth Disprove please
/ Adam and Eve Adam and Eve could exist even in evolution
/ animals Bible does not say how they were created

Congrats, you just proved yourself wrong.  Mr. Gervais is saying "prove I can't fly", and you're saying "prove there's no God".  Both are negative statements.  You're doing exactly what he's denouncing.  It also shows that Mr. Gervais doesn't have a good understanding of what he's talking about either.

I am saying "prove there is a god", not "prove there is no god." Why would I, an Atheist, ask for proof a god DOESN'T exist? You have the entire situation backwards.

Christians are the ones saying "prove there is no god."

In Ricky Gervais' quote, he is taking the position of a Theist stating "Prove there is no God" by saying "Prove I can't fly." Then the non-believer rebuts with "Prove there is a god!", or in the quote, "Prove you can fly!" Of course it would be silly to assume people should believe something that you have shown no proof of. Which is exactly what Christians get away with every day.

So yes, you can't assume "there is no god" to be a true statement because their is no evidence either way for it. So the best we can do is not accept ideas without proof. I have yet to see proof for the existence of god, so I until then, I will continue to not believe in gods.

As much as I support open expression of opinion, you totally knew this was going to happen. I'm starting to think you're just an attention whore

Can't have your cake and eat it too, kiddo.

Anyway, to go about it a less arguable way.

I view the argument between atheism and theism to be a math problem.

Lets say each term is evidence. The problem would go on infinitely to reach proof.

4+11+19-7+60.......=? While at this point in time the problem seems to reflect a positive result, there's no telling what more evidence may bring.
Proof is required on both sides. "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

I knew there would be diversity, yes. However, diversity exists in all walks of life, and it is what makes us think. So far, there have been a number of rational arguments and quotes that are presented here. Much of it is things that get you to think. That is the main purpose of this topic - to think - however my intentions are not of that to fight, or for anyone else to.

I never understood that metaphor. If I have a cake, why can't I eat it? :C

It's a lie, isn't it. :o

You are wrong Atheism is belief that something is false.

No.

No, no, no.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Atheism is a lack of a belief. An Atheist does not believe there are no gods, he has no belief in gods.

"I do not believe in god." =/= "I believe there are no gods."

There is a HUGE difference, and you are severely mistaken.

Proof is required on both sides. "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."
yes it is

I like that I guess. At least you won't go locking it.

HAY guyz I have a baseball.

I liked it to, that's why I made the topic, and why I don't intend to lock it. :)

.......... :o

"I do not believe in god." =/= "I believe there are no gods."
Oh, my bad. Apparently, atheists don't believe in god, but do believe there are gods.
