From what I've read around the Internet, DirectX (used by windows for most games) offers better gaming performance, while OpenGL (cross platform, Mac uses it a lot) has better general 3D graphics performance.

Without directX they are left with OpenGL, Which as you saw with valve's efforts leaves a 50%~ fps decrease and a load of bugs. Plus rewriting the entire game.

Also i was unaware of the linux thing, I guess that's another reason they're great as servers.

Everything new has bugs at one point, but they get fixed.

Apart from the fact that portals not new.
And while i can't say how much they had to rewrite, They had to change it from using directx to opengl.

I love my PC waaaay more than I ever did my iMac or my Mac laptop. One time the laptop broke, so I went to the mac store to ask how much it would cost and when they could fix it. They only said, "Let me ask my manager." Then the manager said, "We cannot fix Vintage computers" I bought that laptop from the same store only around a year after I brought it in.

Mac is better at not crashing and not getting viruses. Not to mention it doesn't load the system up with crap and it has good creativity software.

Windows is better at gaming, and for people that just want a computer for day-to-day use.

What I've also noticed is that Mac peole are more mature and creative... and a lot of Asians use Mac (not to be tribal here, just stating an observation). I notice that a lot of PC users seem to be immature and refuse to acknowledge that Mac is good at anything. Just sayin'.

I originally made the image, seen right, a few years back. Some person made a topic about how the BL forums looked weird to him. Then we discovered it was because he was using Mac and it was affecting viewing. I had to make the above image after that.
