4.0 is the newest version.

Me and a few friends tried it once. We decided we'd need someone who's played before to teach us. (Bad with instructions)

Haven't played since.

Did you buy the starter's kit? And were you trying to play 3.5 or 4.0?

For 3.5, I know there's a starter kit that actually gives you step by step instructions in a pre-made dungeon. Each person gets a little handout and everything.

I have a bunch of old D&D books right next to me. My uncle gave them to me. :D

Sounds like 3.5 but it was a few years ago.

Then it was prolly 3.5 as it is the older version. It's a lot of fun if you're patient enough to learn the rules.

We got through a room with a mirror that killed you but then weren't patient enough to learn the shop-system.

Shop system? You look in the player's handbook to see the list of gear, with the appropriate stats and prices. You say the players took X hours looking for the item then you just subtract the gold and add the item.

3.5 for the win.
4.0 reminds me too much of WoW, everything is bunched together... Good for beginners I guess :P

Well yeah. My view is that 4.0 is easier to learn, but for those of us who have been playing since earlier versions, it's not quite as "classic" as 3.5 is.

I still can play both, though the only 4.0 books I have are the monster manual I and the Player's Handbook.

For 3.5 I have:
Player's Handbook
Dungeon Master's Guide
Monster Manual
Monster Manual II
Monster Manual III
Planar Handbook
Manual of the Planes
Draconimicon
Races of the Dragon
Heroes of Battle
Complete Arcane
Complete Adventurer
Complete Warrior
Complete Divine
Player's Handbook II
Spell Compendium
Magic Item Compendium
Deities and Demigods
Epic Level Handbook
Psionics Handbook

I cast maximized bump.

Hah people think this cannot corrupt people.
Look at Bender.

He is the king of Cornwood

D&D over IRC. Oddly more enjoyable.

I like it more when people physically beg me to use healing word on them

4.0'er I see.

Plus, how do you role dice over IRC?

Religious freaks.

I mean those who are so strict they think Pokemon is witchcraft.
