Ah, id Software! I will always love you even if you've gone to stuff from the past few years. You will always be my favorite video game company. Anyways let us begin. Id Software has always been known for violent FPS games and for starting the trend of FPS games to begin with. Who woulda've thought that they created such a kid friendly platformer game? Which brings us to...
The Commander Keen Series
Honestly, I have never played a Commander Keen game so I can't really speak much on behalf of this game. I have seen a few videos though and it seems pretty dam cool. It's kinda sad honestly that this game never got the attention it deserved.
After the Commander Keen series, id Software made a deal with 3DRealms and some other company and they created...
Wolfenstien 3D
Honestly, I haven't played this game either but this is what basicly got id Software's career a jump start and also created a new game genre. The game is quite simplistic. Grab all the guns and ammo you can find and blast away some national socialists as you try to reach the end of the level.
After Wolfenstien 3D in 1993 id Software created a true masterpiece that thousands of people still play from today...
DooM
Now this is a game that I have played and that I STILL DO play. This really took FPS games to a whole new level with new (fake) multi level portaling. And thus, ID Tech 1 was born, a game engine that many companies would use to create cheap knock offs of this awesome game.

Now DooM has the same stylistic gameplay as Wolfenstien except on steriods. Try fending off dozens of demons from hell with your bare hands! The weapons were perfect and really added to the atmosphere, especially the BFG 9000. Originally the BFG 9000 fired multiple projectiles but (believe it or not) computers couldn't handle it so they made it one large particle instead.
After DooM being a successful hit (even if most people pirated it back then) they made a sequel which led to...
DooM (loving) 2!
This game is pure loving awesome but even then, I would still call it just an expansion pack. It basicly just added new monsters, weapons, and levels. It was basicly a fine tuned version of DooM but they couldn't have done it any better.
After the DooM series id Software stepped up their game AGAIN and they released something beautiful known as...
Quake
This game added REAL 3D technology and had an awesome atmosphere. Sadly for the time computers couldn't run this game for stuff and there was a lot of frame rate drops and the game was really dark on old computers.

Once again, Quake followed the same game style as DooM and Wolfenstien and it began to get reptitive so they made...
Quake II
Now to begin with, it's very unclear whether Quake II used ID Tech 2 or 3 and many people say differently. Anyways this game actually had pre-rendered Cutscenes. They also changed the gameplay too so that you must follow out objectives instead of just blindly running for the exit.

Now the Quake series had been flourishing but the online co-op didn't quite satisfy people so...
Quake: Arena + Team Arena
Now this game reverted back to it's blind gory action gameplay but they focused towards multiplayer. The game did have some pretty smart AI to play with but it wasn't quite the same with playing with real players. The Arena sub series caught on so much that they actually held TOURNAMENTS.

After the Quake series, they decided to go back to their original roots.
Return To Castle Wolfenstien
Now it wasn't quite what we expected from id Software but it was considered to be a pretty dam good game even if I don't care too much for it.

After RTCW was released we waited patiently but with sadly no sign of a new game. Then...
DooM 3
When we heard that they were making a sequel to DooM 2, we were nerdgasming just from the thought of it. Sadly, when it was released... Well... We got a piece of stuff...

I mean the graphics were good for its time but that's all they seemed to worry about. Graphics. The gameplay was pretty weak and it didn't match up to the original game.
After our disappointment, they decided to forget up another game.
Quake 4
Now it wasn't AS BAD as DooM 3 since they decided to sacrifice some game detail so they could render more enemies on the screen at once. It still didn't quite live up to our expectations and the fact that they never released a PC VERSION!

After our second disappointment they decided to continue their streak.
Quake: Enemy Territory
It wasn't quite a bad game necessarily and the idea of class warfare was pretty dam cool but the online community was weaker than stuff. Getting in a match would be a miracle.
Finally id Software managed to somewhat redeem themselves with their latest game...
Wolfenstien
The game both had nice graphics AND gameplay. They finally got a good remake out and somewhat redeemed themselves before they faded away.

Id Software still exists but they show no signs of releasing any new games for better or worse. There's been rumors of DooM 4 and if it's true... Hopefully... HOPEFULLY... They'll do it right this time.
