Author Topic: AWVR 777 from "Unstoppable" - Update 3/30 - Complete!  (Read 76383 times)

Update:

I have worked a sizable amount on the tank car. A rail services business near to where I live referred me to Union Pacific's website, where I was able to get a fair idea for the dimensions of nearly all of the cars on the train (except the tanker, which I got dimensions for via a completely different website).

All of this progress is shown below. Please note that I intend to change a number of things when I next work on it, including getting a larger round for the pump on the top, and using poles in the ladders.

Nope, I'll take your word for it. :P

It's looking fantastic as all of your work does. You created that massive airport, right? Did you and EndGame ever complete the roof?

Nope, that airport is still unfinished. I am playing Blockland for the first time in some months. It's been a year since I have been able to play it on my normal computer! Surburb no longer has the server up, so I will need to see if/when he will be able to host again.

In the mean time, thanks for the feedback. I also need to figure out how I can get the Prixton logo on the sloped portion of that tank car. I still have other work to do tonight first, though, before I can play Blockland.

Here's the current look of the tank car. I think I'll leave it at this and move on, unless you all think it needs considerable improvement.

I noticed upon looking at the picture that I never changed the ladder on the front (left in the picture) side of the car. I have since updated it.

Completed the flatcar, complete with its load of pipes:

The train's consist contains two of these. When I dupe it, I will change the number "6788" to "6790," the number on the other flatcar according to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3TKF0gFdMA

Last update for tonight: added connections to the flat car and duped it. Changed the number on the front of the flatcars, and began to modify the tanker. I noticed some things wrong with said tanker, and intend to fix them later.

The 3 hoppers you have in question are not covered, they are open hoppers. (unless you can find a clip of them showing otherwise)
And they are (by order they appear #'s and all)

AWVR #4989    w/ "COKE SERVICE ONLY" written on the side
AWVR #4992    w/ "COKE LOADING ONLY" written on the side
AWVR #4991    w/ "COKE SERVICE ONLY" written on the side, as well.

And as far as the make. I believe they are 58 Foot, 4 Door, Open Hopper.

And as far as car #8 on your list. It is a 47', 2 Bay, Grain Hopper. ("Bay" = the number of hatches on the bottom of the car. So car #7 is a 3 Bay Covered hopper.)

I thank you for all of your assistance! I shall modify the list in the second post accordingly. If you could, could you estimate the dimensions of the other cars as well? It would be greatly helpful!

Side profiles of these cars that I can use for measurements would be optimal. For example, my single biggest source of help in building the engines had been the following diagram: http://trainiax.net/drawings/36-ge/ac/36-ge-ac4400cw-up-ph2b.gif

The reason I figured it was a closed hopper was because contents of an open topped hopper might shift so severely as to spill at those speeds, because the camera crew wanted to hide the fact that those cars are actually empty, and because it looked so similar to the closed hoppers.

Can I have pics of the airport? Wait, is it the airport made partly by forum user Nick(randomnumbershere) or is it a differnet one? I love BL airports, so pics please.

I do not recall a Nick, and the airport is far from complete. It is a massive project, 6 terminals, 5 runways, cargo terminal, and more, but that's for another time.

Tonight's update: I have started making AWVR 1206, the rescue engine from the film. I had an idea as to what I could do with the completed build which involved this engine.

The undercarriage of the locomotive is directly modified off of 777, but shortened, to reflect the SD40-2's approximately 69-foot length.

To elaborate on my aforementioned idea for the build, I believe that one method by which a key scene in Unstoppable could be turned into a multiplayer Blockland minigame would be to have players spawn in or on 1206, attached to 777's consist the same way it is in the film, then proceed to race up to the front of the train, with a reduced, more realistic jumping ability than a normal player. The first person to move the throttle in 777's cab to stop the runaway wins.

For that purpose, I would need events and perhaps game mode and event add-ons.

I have made a considerable deal of progress today, including a fair deal of preparing this build's eventual minigame. Structurally, however, the biggest update is probably the Prixton tank car, which is coming along nicely since its modification:

There is still some work to do to complete the alteration of the tank's length, but it's mostly filling in the gaps. I am very happy with how it turned out. Also note the change in the ladder on the ends.

All right, boss man.

Here's your list with the approximate lengths, and rail numbers.
