Can I do this on a mac?

Boot Camp should work, but I don't know.

Java is supported on Ubuntu, and it will work better because Ubuntu is better with RAM and CPU.
There is no native Linux version. WINE works fine, but it runs a bit slower.

Beat me to both of them

Richard Stallman DOES NOT APPROVE OF UBUNTU.

OH YOU AND YOUR MANY STRANGE DISTROS

I'm sure its possible but without a boot menu to access on Mac, you can't boot from CD.

Boot Camp is official software from Apple. It lets you boot from CD just fine.

Last time I checked, they send you  free CDs with Linux.

I know about Boot Camp. I'm talking about a key combination that you press a startup to load a menu asking what you want to do prior to OS boot.

That's what Boot Camp is.

Still have to pay for shipping of course. Though getting sent a CD is kind of pointless when you can make your own.

Then you should be able to install Ubuntu just fine. It has support for Mac hardware.

I'm getting Ubuntu, several years ago my friend recommended this.  I am just wondering if Wine works for this so I can play Blockland and Steam games?

Ubuntu apparently lets you use wine

but i never had to

so how does it work, in case i decide to one day get this

Like, is there any special version of it that's better for a server?

The best linux to run a server is Debian.
Ubuntu is also based on Debian. So you will also go well with Ubuntu.

Here is an example of the performance on low-end systems and how to tweak basic stuff:

That's rather interesting. Though I am more comfortable with Win7, I think I'd like to try this out.

forget this i am installing wubi.

UBUNTU HERE I COME AGAIN.

Steam games run in DX8 mode, because wine has no newer version :C.

I love Ubuntu, unfortunately it doesn't run on my laptop correctly. Wifi doesn't work, nor does my USB ports.
