Hey look, it's another MMORPG.
And guess what, people think it's going to be a copy of WoW even though WoW is just another MMORPG as well!

By 'new WoW' Jacky meant a popular MMORPG that will be a good competitor of WoW.

The other guy was saying it was a ripoff.

"Lets compare two MMORPGS that share no similarities other then the typical MMORPG elements!"

See this argument breaks down when the typical MMORPG elements are the defining elements of every MMORPG.

Improvement in the industry is all about breaking away from some of these elements, and that rift claimed to, more or less, do so and has failed to is evidence that it is but a typical MMORPG, which in this day and age means WoW.

MMORPGs have so few defining characteristics that the typical base formula is really all they are. So if they share the typical MMORPG elements, they are 99% alike.

Final Fantasy, tales of phantasia, dragon quest etc. etc. are all the exact same because no one broke away from the elements. You are just too close-minded to realize 2 games can have the exact same features, and be completely different experiences. I loved EQ1 and hated EQ2, EQ2 was basically just EQ1 but it had new features like instances and enhanced graphics, why would I prefer the game that looks more generic in the feature list? Because you aren't even taking into account: Lore, amount of content, how fun the zones are, how easy it is to get together with people and have fun, do you have a class that really is fun to you. There is probably thousands of tiny things you can't throw on a feature list that when added up together will make you hate a game or love it.

I got it a few days ago. I love it

Final Fantasy, tales of phantasia, dragon quest etc. etc. are all the exact same because no one broke away from the elements.
Basically.

Although I think tales broke away from the elements somewhat, I may be thinking of something else though.

Lore, amount of content, how fun the zones are, how easy it is to get together with people and have fun, do you have a class that really is fun to you.
These are small details that are secondary to the over-arching game concepts in this case because they fail to provide the game with something greater than the over-arching game concepts.
To use an example, if we had a bunch of brick walls in a large open field, all different sizes.
Some people will like this brick wall or that brick wall, but they're all fairly much the same, no one constructor is doing anything unique, they just keep piling on the bricks.
There are the little things, as you mentioned, like how this one brick wall is a little taller than that wall, or how this other wall is so neatly stacked. But they are all brick walls.

Now, you say, of course they are all brick walls, that's what a brick wall is, and to complete the brown townogy of course all MMORPGs are MMORPGs, that's just what they are.
But, all of the brick walls are walls, and there are many kinds of walls. Similarly, all generic-fantasy-formula MMORPGs are MMORPGs, and there are (or, should be) many kinds of MMORPGs.

To put it simply, the wall that stands out in a field of brick walls is anything but a standard brick wall. You can't just simply make a better brick wall and claim it to be revolutionary. It still does the same exact thing as the rest of the brick walls, even if it does look a little prettier.

To rear the brown townogy back in here, they should be building structures and not simply making more brick walls.

Although, I'm sure the entirety of this will be lost on you because either you're too stupid or you don't care enough to bother to comprehend it, so I'll put it in small words for you:

"You're not proving a point that is relevant."
Feel free to quote these past few lines and send it right back at me if you don't care enough to read my post and write something meaningful, it would basically just prove my point that you're stupid.

You're saying the feature list means everything and the actual content means nothing. Also nice saying if I don't agree with your completely wrong babbling it is because I am too stupid.

I guess I will point out how your brick wall thing is idiotic, anyone can make the same argument and make it fit their argument. I could argue:

Imagine there was a field full of brick walls. They are all brick walls, but one is blue, one is yellow, they are all shaped slightly different, you are going to prefer one of those walls even though they are all just walls. No one is going to want a pink wall in front of a white house or a blue wall in front of an orange house, some people prefer a small wall to see over some want their privacy. Even though they are all just walls every wall fits a person better than the others.

Completely different. Please know what you are talking about before making some huge example.

The example was HUUUGE. Besides I am sure you are referring to the combat system, I was referring to that all of them are RPGs. A lot of MMOs have different combat systems but they fit into Rkynicks argument, which is the exact reason ToP is on there. You're also welcome that I graced your ignorance with a clarification post.
