He knows.

Oh.

Didn't say it anywhere in OP I don't think?

Also, I did some research about Fred's computer and it seems like later revisions were shipped with Pentium D CPU's. They are based on the Pentium IV but they have two physical cores without HT instead of a single with HT. You'll might be able to find one if you practice the honorable art of dumpster-diving. You could probably find memory this way, too.

Yeah it was somewhere later on. I didn't expect you to read the whole thread, it's cool :3

Dumpster diving... NOW we're getting somewhere. I know my local school district is getting rid of some old HP computers (I believe some have Pentium D's), I might track one of those down. I work for the district so that will help. I can think of one or two other dumpsters to check... Yes, this could work. >:)

Don't forget to buy thermal grease, though (if you don't already have some). Without it the CPU will fry itself.

My school might be trashing some computers with AMD Phenom II dual cores that are about 4.2 GHz.

I might need to look at those.

Neither of you will ever be able to run GTA IV without buying entirely new systems.

I'm sorry you think so

Neither of you will ever be able to run GTA IV without buying entirely new systems.

It pretty much is a whole new system, but with the same case.

Also, the Cooler master Haf 922 looks like a nice case, with a spacious interior and good airflow throughout it, I think I am going to purchase this one, and use entirely new parts.

I have enough money to buy ONE item for it. Should I go for Windows 7, or a RAM upgrade?

I was also looking at this.

I can purchase you a Win 7 CD

>:o but then it's not upgrading a crap system
nah i dont care though :P

I can purchase you a Win 7 CD
then purchase me a wireless adapter :D

Completely redoing my to be added list.

lol yours is going to be almost completely new

lol yours is going to be almost completely new

Oh well.

I didn't like working with a micro ATX anyways :S

Also, what do you think of the build I plan on making?

Bump

What do you guys think of that build?

That build makes me cringe.

You don't need an SSD. There is almost no benefit. DONT BUY IT

You shouldn't be spending that much on 4gb of DDR3 ram. That's just ridiculous. You could get a pretty decent 8gb kit for that price. There is almost no performance increase between buying ram timed at different frequencies.

You don't need anywhere near a 750w PSU. And you shouldn't really be spending that much on one anyways.

You were spending so much on the motherboard and processor that you could easily go to sandy bridge and save money. The performance increase would be huge.

The 470 is rather last gen. You should be going with the 6870 or something along those lines. Actually, now that I think about it, you could get a 5870 for $30 less which would be a pretty big leap in performance.

What's the problem with micro ATX?

The HAF 922 is a huge for a mid-tower. It's almost as big as my full-tower. I would probably recommend ditching it for the antec 900 or 600.
