We did (and will continue to do) a lot of theorycraft on the show, and one theme you'll hear a lot is "kills matter, but aren't everything". I've won my share of games where the enemy was so focused on killing champions that they certainly did a great job, but didn't leave any attention or effort for pushing lanes and killing turrets. Note that the game time is over 70 minutes: buildings become more fragile over time (to make sure games don't last too long), and at that point the buildings are made of paper mâché and silly string, and all champions with decent autoattack become effective at backdooring.
MrCookie bitched to me at how Chex and him were flame warring after the show and I lol'd. I badmouthed Chex during the show because I vaguely remembered he was dumb but looking back on what he posted he's awright, just really biased because he plays Kayle and thinks that Kayle is UP, which is so wrong that even the RIOT devs have been saying for 2 weeks now that they're rebuilding Kayle specifically to nerf her endgame.

I don't envy RIOT's job of globally balancing for all players, because extremely powerful but brief support spells like Kayle's ultimate tend to be fantastically more effective with good teammates than bad ones. In fact, a number of characters are generally considered bad because they're balanced at the top level of play to keep that game interesting, but fall off dramatically in effectiveness with lower player and/or team skill/coordination (see: alistar)
