actually, when me and a friend tested them they went the same speed and the same range and I never saw it give off any light.

Because you dont have to worry about falling while trying to grapple again, because once it attaches to the next thing, THEN the first is removed

My Ivy Whip comes back fast enough that I can simply grapple onto the nearest wall and save myself

Yes, because I think it's stupid that a rare enemy that doesn't even appear until you enter hardmode drops an item that I believe to be inferior to an item you get fairly early in the game

I would always wear a mining helmet if it didn't take up an armor slot. :(
