Well, my house really close to Hallow, but I managed to keep it from being right loving next to it and added a few walls. I think the main problem would be Wraiths or something, since they can kill your NPCs, but that's solvable with a tower since I believe they stay close to the ground.

And I rushed in hardmode fairly unprotected and nothing really bad happened, aside from a few Clown problems during blood moons.

I'm not sure what you consider relatively safe, I;m trying to make sure it's safe right now.

Then jungle, the hallow, dungeons, and floating islands (safe if you dont let it get corrupted by the flying buggers) are all safe

heres a picture of my world

my settlement is in the center, it has a lake to the left of it and a tower to a sky island nearby.
a bit to the right you can see my current progress with my 6 wide hellevator. I'm nearly done so I'll just stick with it.
my second one will be right nder the first sky island to the left of my base

im also planning on completely purifying the one corruption zone to the far right, it looks easy to do.

Got an Excal and all of the armor

I heard that every time you kill the wall of flesh, it turns an area underground into the corruption, spreading it to the surface.

i think for next christmas they should have a stocking item that you hang up and depending on how many peaceful animals you killed would determine the amount of money in it on christmas day
so it would be kill lots of animals = get little money
don't kill any = lots of money

That would suck, it shouldn't depend on how many peaceful animals you kill, it should depend on something else.

Shame it costs so much. I might buy it for the box art...that is amazing.

I heard that every time you kill the wall of flesh, it turns an area underground into the corruption, spreading it to the surface.

When you kill the WoF, a V/X shape of hallow and corruption appears from Hell to The Surface, and then proceeds to spread, decimating anything in its path except the 'opposite' terrain.

It makes it near impossible to completely remove the corruption afterwards because it also spreads underground.

There's one flaw to that:

Wires + 1 Second Timer + Fish Statue = LOTS of money
Wires + 1 Second Timer + 3 Fish Statue = LOTS of MONEY

Basically, unless that stocking is going to present me with a full stack of Platinum I'll just murder every living thing I see.

In what way is the hallow safe? Swarmed by Pixies is not something I consider 'Safe'.
