Right now I'm building what I feel is an excellent alternative to sky bridges, as it removes the issue with meteors striking the bridge and wasting them.
These are the things in the red circles. They're little rest stations to stop at and recharge your mana after you would normally run out and crash back down to earth. Now, they're incredibly small which makes them impossible targets for a meteor, and they allow incredibly fast flight between the stations.
Just grapple the door...
...when you open it, it will launch you out at the speed of the grappling hook's pull (which is higher than hermes boots speed even)...
...and you're off!
