1v1 TF2 is literally the dumbest concept I've ever heard.

Why's that? It improves your dm and can effectively make you an all-around better player. I've never heard of a comp god that doesn't regularly practice in MGE. There is no "e-peen" factor.

Guess you don't know why the game is called Team Fortress 2. Being the best player is being able to work with your teammates to win. Like throwing Jarate on a heavy harassing your team, or using Bonk to distract a sentry.

Go to like an MGE for practice and lobbies more when you want to try and actually play.
Hopefully on lobbies a team sees how good you are (if you are) and picks you up.
Or you could start your own team and sign up for some competitions.
