Garen isn't a tank. Everyone has a bad game and Ryze is kind of forgeted up in terms of his damage to towers due to the fact that he scales off mana. You didn't even bother looking at assists.

-His only CC/Debuff is a silence.
-His ultimate is aimed at finishing targets off, something a tank IS NOT supposed to do.
-Does not have a single support skill. (Yes plenty of tanks don't. But others also have more than just a single target silence)

Playing an AP carry as a tank would do a better job than Garen. For example Veigar simply because he can still injure their APs pretty badly and has an AoE Stun.

I've haven't had too many issues. I build him to do damage, but the build ends up with a lot of armor and about 4500 health. He may not be a tank in the true sense, but he can do okay in the role. He has a lot of harassment that can make people think twice about getting near him.

Perhaps it's not simply about the toolkit, but how it's used.

What you're describing him as in this post is actually an 'off-tank'. A champion that dishes out less damage than a carry but can last longer in the fray. Rather like a hybrid but Physical/Tank instead of Physical/Magic damage.

2nd Sulfate sucks at this game and has now idea how to play.
3rd garen is pretty damn good in 3v3 i have 5 won 0 lost on 3v3 ranked with my friends when playing garen.

Nobody would build garen tank in 3v3 as its over so quickly :7 but his silence is pretty damn awesome.

and yes i built garen offtank in that game with atmas around 200ad its enough
