She offended parents of autistic children
There's a few things wrong with taking offense at that.
1. First of all this character is not proven to be autistic. All that this character is proven to be is lazy-eyed. This is a purely physical disability (as far as is proven).
2. Even if Derpy WAS autistic, this is not a mockery. Is TV really so "play it safe" that you cannot depict a disabled person in any way? Oh sure they'll take risks... all the wrong ones (cough alicorn twilight cough). What I want to know is if The Big Bang Theory gets these sorts of complaints. The answer is probably not, which makes this all the worse. loving messed-up priorities.
3. The word "Derpy" is only an insult because you choose to interpret it as such. Something we could all stand to remember: The difference between "laughing with" and "laughing at" is being able to shake off your own mistakes.
4. I am autistic. I am (or could easily be) offended by the refusal to depict an autistic character in television because people cannot deal with diversity. So is everyone who I have talked to in real life.
tHis argument will probably make a lot more sense once I reword it tomorrow when I am mentally competent.
Or maybe it makes perfect sense right now.
Now all we need is angry customer service line calls about offensive refusal to depict a character with a disability.
tara said it was parents
rumor says it was butthurt derpy haters
no one really knows and probably won't ever actually know
And here we encounter one of the core problems in our society: OVERPROTECTIVE PARENTS WHO CANNOT HANDLE DIVERSITY.
