Author Topic: Need help transferring important data to new PC.  (Read 6246 times)

Well, if your front of the PC Case is broke, if you have a desk that has a good height, you can actually put your parts in the desk, it can be done.

Edit4: Ethan has helped grandly, with a lot of patience. All I need to do now is attach all the power supply cables... not sure how. These things are pythons, hard to control their angles and such. But he's out, so can't do this all now.

I also ordered a DVD Drive.

Anyone see a speaker thing on there for BIOS beeping?

You have to plug the speaker in to the board, I know not all motherboards come with one.

It's not like a real audio speaker, it should just make beeps indicating crap is going on. I'm asking if you see the speaker on there, or if it doesn't have that simple little speaker thing.

No its a speaker and it plugs into a speaker heading on the motherboard, both of my motherboards had the heading but only one came with a speaker

Bottom left corner, Speaker input but no speaker. So mine can't beep to tell me if it's working.

Edit5: Now I need help transferring data to the new computer. This includes Firefox saved passwords, finding wtf my Steam information is since it has automatically logged me in since like 2004, and the such.

Also, this computer has been shared, so I want to only transfer specific ones. I might have to transfer all the passwords and simply remove theirs from the list...

i dun see a speaker.

unless its different on there or something. they usually pretty standard looking

In that case, if you want only your own, then I'd just transfer all you need from the password dialog. Unless you're scared of naked passwords :cookieMonster:

Steam could be a bit of a problem, I'd suggest sending a recovery to your email before you swap main computers.

Also, just plug hard drives into new mobo and psu, profit.

He fixed the speaker issue.

I have a lot of passwords. Putting them all in manually would be annoying. You can't enter ones into the list, only remove or copy.

I might know the login, I was exaggerating.

And take out both harddrives one at a time? Even the main one with all the stuff for this computer in it?

Yes, but when you do, go into the BIOS by pressing Delete at the boot screen. Then, in one of the menus, you can set the boot order/set the slave drives. Make sure you don't boot into the old computers hard drive, it could funky.

Finally transferred a few files off the old computer. Only a few, but enough to keep me going. Turns out, I gave myself the most random forum password and couldn't remember it. Plus, I don't know the email... But I got Firefox's saved passwords onto this computer and got in. Also transferred over my Session Manager Sessions. Best part: Transferred my Blockland folder Add-Ons and my serial, so I can play again. :D

Well, the old computer is shared by my mother. I'd mostly be syncing her stuff. Bad stuff I really don't want here. That's why I'd rather manually transfer data I choose. Our browser histories are intertwined, so that is out of the question to even consider. I don't believe I ever even used Bookmarks. If so, the few times I did probably weren't important. Transferring saved passwords had to take two files, and then me manually clearing out hers. I really don't need anything else for Firefox besides what I got. Whatever data I'm missing, I should be able to replace and repair. The only curiosity are my cookies, not sure how much I'll need those... I do have some old high scores on Cargo Bridge I'll have to regain, but I'd rather play through it on a computer that doesn't lag somehow while playing it anyway.
