Can you build a computer?

I don't believe so. I'd screw up connections or ruin something. Besides that, I'd want the overall compatibility of the parts to be under assurance by someone I can sue, and not the fault of the now-owner.

This forum can make sure everything is compatible, and it's pretty much foolproof but up to you.

I don't see myself building a computer because, over the years, it will get worse. My family will make the excuse "upgrade parts" and eventually that will become impossible to manage. I'd rather keep them to full pre-builts so we can get all new parts at the same time and not worry about changing and such for individuals.

I named the parts and got the prices set up a little more orderly. Did you factor in the shipping? How this will all work together? I'll check after posting.

Case $29.99 + $9.99 Shipping
Power Supply $44.99 - ? = $34.99 After Rebate
Motherboard $59.99 + $4.99 Shipping
Processor $59.99
RAM $40.99 - ? = $30.99 After Rebate
Harddrive $59.99
Video Card $105.99 + $6.98 Shipping
Wireless Communication $14.99
Card Reader $8.99 + $1.99 Shipping
Operating System $99.99

Edit:

Primary: $29.99 + $44.99 + $59.99 + $59.99 + $40.99 + $59.99 + $105.99 + $14.99 + $8.99 + $99.99 = $525.90

Shipping: $9.99 + $4.99 + $6.98 + $1.99 = $23.95

Total Initial Cost: $549.85

Rebates (Not counted because initial cost is primary):
$34.99 After Rebate
$30.99 After Rebate

Doesn't Newegg give you free shipping if you order many parts?
Even if they don't, I'm sure they could send everything within the case, so that $10 would be the max?

Wait, they can build it for me?

To save me some time, did you check your AMD chipset on your motherboard. There could be a later version.

My current computer is a 6-7 year old eMachines. It was low end back then, still is. What is on this one doesn't matter.

Ok.

My dad got a new desktop and now I can have 2 external 200GB harddisks and 2; 1GB RAM strips.
Awesome.

Should I get this pre-built:

Or these components to build one:

What seems to fit the value better?

It's always going to cost a bit more for a pre-built computer but it all depends on your confidence in building one.
