Kerbin you mean.

Also, the only planets that usually require some sort of docking system to get to are Eeloo or Moho just because of the horrible amount of fuel needed.
I can easily get to Eve on a 3 stage rocket.
*slow sarcastic clap*
you are not someone i was referring to.

You were referring to the game design forcing people to use docking systems. No the game does not require it in any sort. You can even make a rocket ship capable of taking off from Jool without having to dock a single thing together.

People need to design their ships more efficiently. More Fuel isn't really the way to go if you're having trouble getting to another planet. It moreso applies to saving weight and efficient placement of modules and tanks. (Also use the forgetton out of nuclear engines). One easy way for people to save weight is to get rid of aesthetic pieces such as nosecones or structural supports (like girders and I beams) as they don't have any benefit towards the ship by weighing it down and making it harder to take off.

As much fun as the MORE BOOSTERS motif is, more fuel isn't always the answer to getting to the next door planet.

If anyone wants to go for an easy interplanetary trip, go to Eve before Duna. Eve requires a lot less D/V to intercept, and the atmosphere is much friendlier for aerobraking.

EDIT: Kerbal Engineer is also a wonderfully helpful tool for calculating D/V and getting a general consensus on where you can go.

Well structural beams make the ship not wobble violently in mid flight and fall apart.

I moreso meant the girder pieces, I-Beams, and Panels.

The point-to-point support beams that you use to link up things are massless and dragless so put as many as you want.

for all those people complaining about being unable to get to other planets: it's essentially inherently designed that you can't escape Kerbal SoI and make any meaningful rendezvous with other bodies WITHOUT USING A DOCKING SYSTEM. please for the love of christ start assembling larger ships in orbit or otherwise it will be nearly impossible to escape Kerbal SoI.
youre dumb

Yeah so after about 4 hours of playing I was building a big interstellar space craft. I got the crew part into orbit which had room for 8 and included batteries, science instruments, and an unmanned satellite probe in a cargo hold. After that, I got the massive nuclear engine on it by docking it to the end. It was looking pretty cool but the main part still had 2 docking nodes. I was going to put a lander on one of them so I made one and flew it up there. Docked it, but it took very long because I was loving up the RCS. Now it was looking super badass and all with a nuclear reactor, radiators deployed, solar panels deployed, a bunch of lights turned on. The last docking node was going to be a tiny escape pod for 2 (sorry for the other 6 if they couldn't make it and something happened). I quickly built it and got it into orbit. This took the longest to rendezvous (approximately 12 days) because I was messing up. After a while, I finally got within 4km of the giant craft. I was making my way in, meter by meter. As I got 300 meters away, the game lagged up for about 8 seconds and when it returned I was in awe because everything I had built and docked together just exploded into hundreds of pieces for no reason.

Well, that was a great waste of 4 hours of my life.

i'm sorry to hear that :(
quicksave often! it can save you a lot of heartache if something goes wrong.

well i forgeted up, i forgot to put solar panels on my mun lander

Im having trouble building a good fuel station, but when I try to launch it, it forgets up

Sorry for double post, but I seriously forgeted up on my ship, when I decoupled my fairings my engine did as well so now my fuel station has no engine to get to a ship i need to refuel, what do forums

2 things, are you on a suborbital trajectory, and how large is the docking port on the ship

i watched a scott manley video all is good now

when in doubt; watch scott manley

.....good because that is exactly the one i was going to show you. vroom vroom.
