Gameplay features
Commo Rose has been confirmed. DICE is working on a console version of Commo Rose as well.
3D spotting has been revised.
Motion sensors are back, but cannot be thrown, and have to be deployed.
The EOD bot can be used to arm MCOMs, repair vehicles and disarm mines.
Players can spawn on any squad member now, but DICE is looking into it.
Kill-cam is back.
Jet max height is 1000m (same as BF2).
Jets will be available on consoles as well.
Bullets from different weapons have different velocity speeds, bullet drop is back as well.
Weapons are faction specific, but you can unlock other faction’s weapons once your rank up high enough.
Weapon silencers will be available on almost all weapons except shotguns.
Assault rifles with long, high-zoom scopes will have “glint” as well.
Claymores are back. You can crouch past them, but have to use explosives to blow up claymores and mines.
Vehicles will have regenerative health, but only if slightly damaged.

This is not to say that the game has not received its share of controversy though. Much of this stems from the required use of EA’s Origin service which will effectively limit players to a single account in-game. In addition to this, there is also the hot topic regarding the differences between Battlefield 3‘s console and PC versions. It looks as if more fuel is about to be added to the aforementioned fire, though this time PC gamers are the ones who will feel the burn.


According to the Battlefield Blog, while the console versions of Battlefield 3 will be receiving an in-game server browser, PC users won’t be as lucky. Instead, they will be forced to use the new Battlelog feature to find and join games online. This means that players will not be able to join multiplayer games from within the game itself, instead having to search and join a given server through the Battlelog page.

As a feature that has become an integral part of PC gaming, it makes little to no sense for DICE to do away with in-game server browsers. If PC gamers weren’t already angry at being forced to use Origin, this move may be the one to push them over the edge. Put into perspective, if you were to join a server but decide that you don’t like it, rather than simply opening a menu and selecting a different one to join, you instead have to exit out of the match in order to find a new one. This process just seems to be counter-intuitive.
