it'd almost completely defeat the use of knifing for me if I only had a 50% chance to succeed

Possibly the event is trigged when the player being knifed is attacked from the side, with high chances for counter knifing, or its a new animation for knifing a guy.

you can probably only counter knife if you are being knifed from the front/side, definitely not from behind.

counter knifing is prob a perk you can use on your loadout. so not many people would have it and be using it.
