Then in that case, being / means to divide, it would be 48 divided by 2(9+3) which would still equal 2.

NO!

48/2(9+3)

48/2(12)

48/2*12

24*12

288

The last math teacher I had refused to teach us American math, but rather the math he grew up learning in Europe.

I'm only approaching the equation the way I was taught.

you clearly havent been to algebra yet

2(9+3) is
2*(9+3)

OR
2x(9+3) if you're too handicapped to figure out *

PEMDAS TO THE RESCUUUE!

You're all just arguing as to whether the (9+3) is in the denominator. OP, is it or isn't it?

Yes. However, the wait it is written in the OP makes it seem like the 9+3 is in the denominator.

And YES, I understand that normally there would be extra brackets. But thats how calculators work, not the brain.

If it were a denominator, I think Sev would have been nicee enough to put it underneath the problem, as would any typical math problem.

Then in that case, being / means to divide, it would be 48 divided by 2(9+3) which would still equal 2.

That would actually make sense because division is after multiplication. Well stuff.

Wtf, 16 new replies?
