Make some doors, place them at the entrance to the room.
If you really want to pamper your dwarves, you can press r and turn it into a bedroom. They'll automatically assign.

Uncaring about anything except beer as dwarves are, they don't like sleeping in stockpiles. Any furniture in a stockpile is 'inactive' until placed (b>b)

It looks like you have corpses and possible miasma inside of your base. Make a refuse and corpse stockpile outside.

Also, I was thinking of ideas for a moat and finally settled upon a trench filled with corpses. The enemy goes in and dies/goes insane from all of the miasma.
