Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress Megathread! - Necro'd enough to count as a vampire  (Read 137855 times)

It's not the accent that bothers me but the quality of their mics.

It sounds most of the time like unintelligable screeching mixed in with a faux-fancy speech pattern and British accent and I cannot bear even 10 seconds of it.

Oh man thought I was in the Minecraft topic and I assumed by "British accent" GameChap, forget this ever happened.
hahapip pip cheerio old chaps and chapettes we've got a rather impeccable outstanding mod for you today

It's not a british accent though it's dutch. (in the DF vid that is)

I have decided I'm just going to wade through stuff knee deep until I figure this game out on my own.

When designated my dwarfs jobs at the beginning what do you guys suggest going with?
Also, when I press v to view a dwarf and it gives me information, should I use this info to better assign the dwarf?
and what do the n symbols on the map represent?

I'm playing right now with the vaguest idea of what's going on. I've designated some areas for work and got some stockpiles of wood, food, stone and gems but I have no idea what to do with them. Is it possible to build walls or do I have to carve out a room-shaped cave?

Carve out the rooms, later on you're able to build actual walls.

Are you using a texture pack?

Are you using a texture pack?
Yes, Ironhand, I don't know what the n or V represents

You can build actual walls any time, it's just less of a nightmare to dig out rooms rather than build them.

Found that out. I find it entertaining that one of my few miners is a 70-year old, frail woman who detests worms. This game's pretty slick and I can tell that it's worth learning already.

Dwarves are tough as a brick wall. They can do anything and anything as long as they aren't taking a dirt nap (which they don't even do that, you can shove them in a coffin on the surface), it's great.

Luckily dwarves have a maxage of 150 years old, everything seems to have unnaturally high lifetimes in this game.

Dwarves can be 150, humans 120, elves and goblins are immortal and I'm not sure about kobolds.

Considering that the video explaining the "basics" of the game is longer than most of the mainstream movies and actual gameplay starts at around 45 minutes, this game has far too much micromanagement for me.

All you really have to manage in fortress mode is giving dwarfs commands like "CHOP THESE TREES" or "MINE THIS ROCK" or "DISPOSE OF THIS CORPSE" and you really don't have to worry as long as they don't cause a flood or something.

what I mean by the n's and V's is what you see in this picture.

The n's are haunted grasslands IIRC, the V's and those rack things are badlands.

I see 2 badlands, an ocean, mountains and plains/forests and humans. And a river.

I've never used that texture pack before so I'm probably wrong on some of it.
