On to a topic, Dwarf Fortress was my gate to the wonderful world of Roguelikes. After getting past the "oh look the Matrix" phase of Dwarf Fortress, I discovered Rogue Basin, a wiki on roguelikes. After that, I found many roguelikes, coupled with the Bay 12's knack for finding good ones I become a roguelike fan. I've played many a roguelikes, but I'll drop some of my favorites. Goblin Camp (think less complex Dwarf Fortress with a decent UI and mouse support), Dwarf Fortress (DERP), Rogue Survivor, Cataclysm, Aliens: the Roguelike and Prospector.
Roguelikes are a rich genre, so much content and so many hours of fun in a tiny package. They don't need graphics to be awesome.
